Looking for material for his webtoon, Ji-woo (Sung Joon) interviews a security guard (Kim Hong-pa) about strange disturbances in an apartment building - the Ghost Mansion of the title. Presenting these stories in anthology form - we have ghost children, time displacement, killer mold, a jealous sex doll, and two criminals attempting to rob a church located within the structure. All segments are written and directed by Jo Ba-Reun, so the lack of connecting threads or variations on themes, is odd. Ghost Mansion (viewed as Night Shift, despite a fondness for daytime photography) plays like a collection of short films, but there is little question of how each story will conclude, and no deeper questions at play.
For a dilapidated…
Ghosts haunt creepy old dilapidated apartment block. Who'd have thunk it?
Korean horror anthology set over 5 chapters around an apartment block known as 'the mansion'. Each character is haunted by their individual fears manifested in all their PG-13 glory.
Had its creepy moments and did its best with its limitations, but I felt a little shafted after the first 3 stories kind of ended the same way; with horror figure on screen next to the victim scared shitless.
Shakes up the spirit box enough; sneaky giggling children, murderous time displacement, creepy (Lars and the Real Girl) love doll, spooky elevator dude and a closet full of fear. There were a few creative spectres that stood out, but still nothing too memorable.
All up, I guess it works for the teeny target audience, but for those that want a bit of substance with their scares, this mansion's kind of hollow.
Rock-solid horror anthology that doesn't do anything new but is.. rock-solid indeed.
This was great!
Some legit scary parts, a little bit of weirdness and stories that reminded me of some of Junji Ito's short works.
I binged on anthology films a little while ago and I wound up watching a lot of garbage. Heck, most were pretty bad. Had I seen this during that binge it would've kept me going for at least a couple more weeks.
Pleasantly surprised by this! Doesn't do anything really new but it felt fresh to me somehow. The first story is maybe the weakest but the others are fun and the ending is not a bad way to bring it all together, imo. I guess that does depend on the kind of endings you prefer when it comes to scary films, though.
1/? from the Halloween list
Judging from the poster i thought the mansion would be moving or something...
