On the list of terrible movie taglines, 'sea evil' for Ghost Ship has to be up there surely? Yet it serves as an omen for Steve Beck's cheesy B-movie horror, only cheesy in the cringeworthy and bland sense, rather than the memorably bad & strangely enjoyable opposite.
We all know Gabriel Byrne is far better than this schlocky, drab and scare free nonsense - all he really does is walk around looking bored in a cravat; Karl Urban, before he had a good line in badass, slums it as an annoying crewman; Julianna Margulies wonders in dazed off the set of ER; though a young Emily Browning is a little creepy as an undead young girl, mind.
It has one saving grace in a quite marvellously stupid, gory opening moment that admittedly is quite memorable. That's it. The rest is dumb, cheap horror you can survive fine without.
