not one person in this movie reacts to their initial undeniable confirmation of ghosts as the life-changing moment it should be. every single person experiences their first ghost with the intrigue of seeing a novelty license plate
“i’m giving Ghostbusters back to the fans!”

I can't imagine the Ghostbusters theme song existing in the world of this movie which seems wrong for a Ghostbusters movie
“50 references you missed” youtubers are preparing 11 videos for this film as we speak
An absolute masterpiece of "Hey, I recognize that thing from the other thing!" cinema.
If you love recognizing things, buckle the fuck up.
Paul Rudd’s class seems great. No work and you just watch 80s horror movies all day? Now that’s a real education.
The Leonardo DiCaprio pointing at the TV screen meme for 125 minutes. It’s astonishing how something can be so “faithful” to an old movie and miss its point completely.

I'm not sure if The Force Awakens was where the ball really got rolling on franchise revivals ultimately being about new characters mostly standing around talking awestruck about how great the original characters and stories were but the wave of this dead-end nostalgia that has coincided with the endlessly recycled IP era fucking sucks, it exists to infantalize you, and the fact that Ghostbusters has become a particularly brutal battlefield in the trench war of nostalgic content is grotesque. Fuck this and fuck Jason Reitman for treating this property, which was if anything a passion project by a ghost-obsessed Aykroyd and honed by Ramis, as if he had prima nocte hereditary rights to it. As with The Rise of Skywalker, it was crafted in direct response to a misogynist furor by the worst fans, and it panders to them relentlessly at the expense of getting a single thing right.

Dusting off those old Proton Packs to honor the past, and look to the future.
"I will always be a Ghostbuster."
I did not come into Ghostbusters: Afterlife with any expectations, and as a long-time fan of the franchise it was so exciting to see the story continued like this. The movie takes us out to the middle of nowhere where Egon Spengler was preparing for the final stage of Gozer's
apocalypse. But when he dies, the task of picking up his old P.K.E meter falls to his granddaughter Phoebe. The film does an excellent job of giving us something fresh while peppering in plenty of Ghostbusters elements that we know and love, which…
