Brigitte has escaped the confines of Bailey Downs but she's not alone. Another werewolf is tailing her closely and her sister's specter haunts her. An overdose of Monkshood - the poison that is keeping her transformation at bay - leads to her being incarcerated in a rehabilitation clinic for drug addicts where her only friend is an eccentric young girl by the name of Ghost.

Great sequel. Emily Perkins shines again as a moody Bridgett, but Tatiana Maslany almost outplays her as a very creepy Ghost. Again, the werewolf story is just a part of a more complex drama story.
everyone complaining that there wasn’t enough Ginger in this movie is insulting because Brigitte is just as interesting and worthy of her own movie and put some respect on Emily Perkins name but also what about SAM??? my drug dealer boyfriend is lying dead in the basement of the fitzgerald home and not ONE mention of him??? unacceptable
I had never watched this sequel, I'm not sure why but it did surprise me just how dark this was. The comedy that is present at moments throughout the first is almost completely stripped away. I appreciate that Brigitte has developed more in this. Her character is much stronger and more sure of herself, but that doesn't lead to better things happening to her.
The parallels to puberty are replaced with themes of trauma, addiction, abuse, and mental illness. That is of course what leads this to be much darker than first. It does make sense and it doesn't really hurt the film at all. It also allows the few moments of dark humor to hit a bit more when they do pop up. This does serve as a depressing and downer ending though, but one I still really enjoyed.
Excellent sequel! Really can’t decide if I prefer this or the first one! They’re two vastly different movies and while the first was a total horror play on the teen coming of age movie, this one goes darker with a story about lycanthropy and addiction. It’s also got a great bleak “dead of winter” atmosphere so I just may have to gibe this one the edge.
I like Katharine Isabelle, but this movie belongs to Emily Perkins and that’s a good thing because she carries it wonderfully. Really, they could have left out Isabelle’s flashback and hallucination appearances and this would have been just as good. Also, I know Eric Johnson is supposed to be playing a semi-bad guy here,…
A remarkable follow up that uses the same format to engage a different metaphor while still keeping the spirit and continuity of the original. It's a complete fucking mess, but it still does something a little different in a way that didn't make me roll my eyes. Trauma, addiction, mental health, and the abusive mental health system all neatly interlock into a werewolf narrative - lunacy and craving are right there. The film failed to fully explore some of the deeper issues, and it didn't resonate the way the first one did. But. It was still a smart film with some fun effects and a kid eating deer entrails, so.

A bit shocked at how good this turned out to be. The satire and metaphors are toned down in favor of more traditional horror tropes, but the film manages to avoid horror cliches despite going this route.
Emily Perkins returns to star while Katharine Isabelle is reduced to a minor role in the film. While they are both great, the surprise of the film is 18 year old Tatiana Maslany. She has a bit of a following now through the TV show Orphan Black, but here she's unrecognizable as she doesn't even look 18, I would have guessed she was more like 14.
Her character Ghost, just like the movie, just gets better and better as time goes on. Along with Perkins and the films wickedly dark sense of humor, this is a sequel that's actually worth checking out.
So after pretty much loving the original movie for this with its take on werewolves and blending it out with female's very own struggles both socially but also physically (read: puberty), I heard of this sequel through LB and I was curious to see where this unintentional sequels would be drawn into...
...and the results are decent.
Emily Perkins is still as awkward and weird as in the first movie, pulling all of these same vibes to perhaps much higher levels which makes for both a cool time, though it was hard to sympathize or anything with her, which makes the viewing experience much difficult.
