Almost a carbon copy of Sebastián Lelio's Gloria made 5 years earlier. And like Gloria, I was completely engaged. Julianne Moore, John Turturro are great... and you can never go wrong with Michael Cera. However, there are cultural differences that needed to be addressed that makes the remake a bit unrealistic. The US doesn't have a mature club culture. You don't find dance clubs playing this sort of music for the 50+ crowd. This definitely exists in Chile and in many other countries around the world but not in Orange County, CA. (Read Kris comment below. Perhaps I’m ignorant to this in the US) So even though I liked the club scenes, they never rang true to me.

a very nice little movie about national treasures Julianne Moore and John Turturro having divorcee sex. and then… it's a little more than that. haven't seen Lelio's original, so i can't really engage with this as a scene-for-scene cover, but i can imagine how a breezy character study like this might benefit from the contrast. also, i have questions about the Sean Astin scene, but i guess those can wait.

sebastián lelio is so especially good at these slice of life pieces, this is so melancholy that it almost feels like a documentary
