A gay couple of a Bosnian Muslim and a Serb made for a fascinating lens through which to view the atmosphere and attitudes around the Bosnian War. The departure for Milan's rural Serbian home village brought an interesting mood to the film, as Kenan was made to hide his identity by disguising himself as a woman.
The warmth of the village towards the disguised Kenan contrasted well with the suffocating reality he lived, surrounded by Serbian nationalists openly speaking of and acting on their violent hatred towards Muslims.
