Santiago, an illegal Mexican immigrant to Los Angeles dreams of playing professional soccer but his father wants him to be with them and support the family. He gets his lucky break when an ex-soccer player chances upon his games, and invites him over to England for trials and Santiago must make a choice between the needs of his family and his passion.
It is undeniably an enchanting experience as it reels out to explore strong emotions of love, friendship, sacrifice, perseverance and ultimate success against all odds. On the surface it is a movie about soccer but at it's core, it is about relationships and how it's important.
It is about having dreams and giving it all you've got in realising them. The movie strikes the right chords and it really works because it is, above all, sincere in what it is trying to convey.
