this wasn’t really for me. I guess I won’t be joining a frat anytime soon. was that the point? this movie seems aimed more at teenagers?
while watching the hazing sequences, I couldn’t help but think of images from Guantanamo Bay. I then wondered about George W. Bush’s own frat experience at a rich, northeast university. I was also reminded of Full Metal Jacket.
the ‘fraternity’ connection btw U.S. army recruits and jihadists is an exciting idea, but the film doesn’t really deserve credit for making this connection. I pieced that together during the montage
it kind of drops all story and character momentum in the 2nd act, and devotes the next 50+ minutes to a frat hazing montage.
