a magic movie about the magic of books that speaks directly to kids without being condescending or too emotionally heavy. it never panders to adults (ok maybe save for that truly excellent stephen king joke) and that's exactly why it will work for any open-minded adult - it is so full of the joy of weirdness and adventure that there's no time to waste winking at the 30-somethings who dragged their kids in for a nostalgia trip. it's sappy and silly, sure, but you don't need to understand it because they will. aside from too much shakey cam this is visually a marvel, so alive that you don't need to see it in 3D for it to jump out at…

Feels like a 2012 Disney channel original movie. I wish it was more like the 90s if only for a greater commitment to scaring the shit out of children.

I admit I was too critical on Goosebumps the first time I gave it a review, likely since my kids used to watch this constantly. But this was their introduction to scary movies, and despite it being corny we still love coming together to enjoy it.

Some of the jokes fall flat here and there, and the CGI is noticeably bad, but "Goosebumps" is still an insanely fun, fast paced, and entertaining time at the movies. The cast looks like there all having a blast, the action sequences are a ton of fun to watch, and I was laughing pretty consistently throughout. Nothing all the special or memorable in the long run but it's a perfect way to speed 100 minutes.
Jack Black and his amazing ability to make even the most mediocre of movies he's in genuinely fun
