Pretty good documentary on Antonio Barrera who has the reputation of being the most gored bullfighter in the history of the sport, the film also tackles the passion and sport of bullfighting and what attracts Matadors to the sport. Insightful, but quite short, I felt that it merely touched the surface of its subject ans so much more could have been done to make this a standout documentary. Gored may be short, but it is a film that manages to cram a lot of information into the documentary. As well, you keep asking yourself what’s the rush of putting yourself in front of a pissed off bull? Especially considering that the Matador documented in this film has been gored 23…
I don't know much about bullfighting but that guy didn't seem to be very good at it.
Looks like television. Is pretty uninspired. Bullfighting is kind of cool. Killing animals for sport isn't very cool these days. The dude is kind of a spoiled, rich dude. Getting gored is sweet, and the archivial footage was cool. But the ending was pretty bogus.
GORED is a difficult film to assign a star rating to, in some respects. I am not a fan of bullfighting, to put it mildly, and cruelty against animals on film is something that makes me cringe. Ergo, a documentary about a famous bullfighter that features numerous scenes in the ring of the fighter and/or the bull being wounded and bleeding out is something that's genuinely unpleasant for me to watch. At the same time, despite my own antipathy, I'm very curious as to the appeal of bullfighting and the loyalty it's commended among some (probably BECAUSE it seems so alien to me).
