Not nearly as bad as I was expecting.
Sure, the dialogue is often riddled with cliche and the whole narrative is basically just another Driving Miss Daisy (as if we ever needed another one of those). That said, there’s a sincerity at the heart of the film that is somewhat admirable. Both Ali and Mortensen deliver splendid performances as well, which does wonders in pulling the film along. In most senses, Green Book is an very enjoyable film.
But at the same time, didn’t people say the same exact things about Daisy some thirty years ago? Aren’t Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy just equally as “splendid?”
