I’m sick and tired of seeing people who love this musical that preach BLM with their entire heart. They’re hypocrites. It’s about our founding fathers, the exact people who created our society to be systemically racist, as they oppressed and dehumanized Black people. It’s literally romanticizing the founding fathers, and an awful part of American history. It glorifies these men, and paints them as self sacrificing heroes, and honestly normalizes and validates slavery, as well as the behavior of slave owners. I realize that part of its purpose is to reclaim the history of these figures, as POC play many of the white roles, but it's done in such a backwards, misguided way, that basically ignores the bad entirely. Hamilton is a play without characters. it exists as the laziest form of writing, every song exists as a statement, a declaration of what the character represents and what ideology you’re supposed to buy into without question. Alexander Hamilton as written and performed by Lin Manuel Miranda is the personification of all that’s good in this world, a significant display of narcissism that is impossible to separate from his personal faux neo-liberalism in reality.
