  The sequel gets a little playful. It wants to be Back to the Future and Groundhog's Day. Also, there are elements of Final Destination. I love how it plays with time and different dimensions. I would NOT recommend seeing this movie if you haven't seen the first one, as the character, Tree, explains everything that happens in the first movie to the last detail. I guess that is helpful for a refresher, but not helpful if you haven't seen the first one and want to.

  On IMDB, it's listed as a "horror, mystery, thriller" although the "comedy" genre could be applied to it also, as there are several light-hearted moments.

  This movie does not suffer from being a sequel. In fact, it was probably just as good as the first.

  No animals were harmed on-screen, although humans were stabbed, strangled, shot, etc.

  Ballsy as hell, as this basically is only a slasher comedy for a few scenes, almost out of sheer obligation to the first. Instead, Landon crafts a big hearted Millennial answer to MY SCIENCE PROJECT that’s nerdy and sweet and romantic as all get out, making my heart straight up burst during one scene (and tears come out of my eyes in three others). One day in the future, some bratty film student is gonna embrace these wild cinematic pop songs and become the next demented John Hughes, whistling their own tunes of coed love and loss. Oh, and Jessica Rothe is a goddamn hero. Put her in EVERYTHING.
