Maybe not quite my favorite Michael Almreyda film (it would be hard to beat Another Girl, Another Planet), but the one which successfully synthesizes at least two of his overarching interests: genre deconstruction and documentary filmmaking. A quasi-futuristic science fiction techno-thriller on one hand, and a distinctly lived-in portrait of pre-Katrina New Orleans on the other, filled with all sorts of local color including New Orleans music fixtures Ernie K-Doe and Quintron (sans Miss Pussycat, sadly).
