  Desperate and ugly. Can't even muster a fraction of the visual imagination of the otherwise-also-disappointing del Toro ones. I mean at least those don't look and sound completely like garbage.

  I tried my best to go into this with a clear mind and judge it on its own merits. This lasted all of two minutes until a narrator informed me over footage of a crow eating a man's pustulent eyeball that the dark ages were dark "for good fucking reason", at which point my heart sank into the foundations of the theater and didn't come back up for the next two hours. Don't get me wrong, this is a bad movie on its own merits - by all reports, Millennium Films (who can now count "dismissing Bryan Singer's pedophilia charges" among their many dubious claims to fame) took control of this away from Neil Marshall, and it shows.   Kennt Ihr die Szene aus dem Simpsons-Film, in der Homer an der Abrissbirne hängt? Wenn er gegen diverse Dinge knallt, zwischen Saloon und Felsen hin und her donnert, permanent schreit, irgendwann von der Kugel schmiert und sie am Ende auf ihn drauf kracht? Das ist "Hellboy - Call of Darkness". Also Hellboy oder eben David Harbour ist Homer, die Abrissbirne ist der Film und nicht im Bild erkennbar sitzt Neill Marshall an den Steuerknüppeln und dirigiert den Bums.   shockingly bad! like just as a movie. i know theres hints of this characterization in the comix & del toros but i'll never forgive them turning hellboy into epic snark deadpool and not even as dumb/entertaining as that sounds. joyless "forced fun" marvel movie vibe, real kingsman shit. lil peep didnt die for this!

  I barely can remember what was happening in this film, it's very forgettable.
  It seemed like this film didn't know what it wanted to be. If it was trying to be comedy, it failed. If it was trying to be thrilling, it failed.
  Tone of this film was all over the place. In the one hand, you have "tense" moment with serious music in the background, and then, from nothing, David Harbour had to shout some badly timed comedic lines. This happens a lot in the film. On the other hand, you have tonally brighter scene with rock themed music, and then all of the sudden, something serious would happend, and there wouldn't be any change in the tone. So…
