I've seen more than my fair share of martial arts movies, I wouldn't go so far as jaded but let's just say it takes something very special to surprise me. Well, I've got three words for you:
Japanese Crab Fist!
A handful of chop-socky flicks have blown me away over the years; Enter The Dragon, Prodigal Son, Shogun Assassin, The Street Fighter, Fist of Legend, Kung Pow, Iron Monkey, The Blade, The Matrix, Crouching Tiger...
Heroes of the East now sits triumphantly at the tail end of this esteemed company. Sublimely superb in all departments, including humour, the master battles are expertly staged, deliciously delivered and varied in their execution. Highlights include the Kendo expert, chain stick vs. nunchaku and the entire amazing ninja finale.
I also wasn't aware of how much Gordon Liu is the man.
I can only conclude that I have not watched enough Kung Fu. I better go give my misses the bad news.
