Actual dialog from the film Hitchcock
Hitchcock: In my thirty years as a director I have never found a Hitchcock blonde more beautiful than you, Alma.
Alma: Oh, I have been waiting for thirty years to hear you say that.
Hitchcock: That's why they call me the Master of Suspense.
If it's true that the casting of Hopkins as Hitchcock is as inspiring of a casting as Freeman as God/Mandela, unfortunately the material given to the actor simply isn't good enough to make a lasting effect.
There are some good moments, and learning more about the making of Psycho was interesting, but the issue for me is that it all felt rushed. If the passage of time and events in this film were like the turning of pages in a book, then instead of the film pausing and reading, it's as if someone took the book, folded it up, and let the page turn. You're fatigued towards the end, as if you've just finished a marathon. The romance between Hitchcock…
I'm just a man hiding in a corner with a camera... watching.
-Alfred Hitchcock
Based on the book Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho by Stephen Rebello that details every aspect imaginable of the making of Psycho. When I say every aspect, I do mean it. Rebello left no rock unturned when he researched this book. You may ask yourself how could such a detailed book be turned into a 98 minute film, and the simple answer would be that it wasn't.
The story is supposed to be about the making of one of the greatest films ever made, by possibly the greatest director who ever lived and his greatest collaborator, a remarkable talent in her own right, his…
my main takeaway here is that this man could EAT… 3 cans of foie gras in a row? in the middle of the night? no bread no crackers just raw dogging it with a spoon? god damn
A half-hearted attempt to bring on screen a chapter from the life of one of world cinema's greatest auteurs, Hitchcock is a missed opportunity that is set in the time when director Alfred Hitchcock undertook Psycho as his next film project which was a very controversial decision of its time but is now widely regarded as the most famous work of his remarkable career.
Directed by Sacha Gervasi, Hitchcock mainly covers the relationship between Hitchcock & his wife, and features only bits n pieces of the behind-the-scenes work on Psycho. The set pieces do carry a vintage feel, Camerawork keeps switching from documentary shooting style to traditional photography and Editing isn't any good either for the film is tediously paced & contain…
Hitchcock offers the viewer a good insight into the mind of the legendary director Alfred Hitchcock. But not just into his life, but especially into the making of the absolute cult classic Psycho. Overall this sadly is more of a Love movie instead of a movie about moviemaking, which I think personally was the wrong direction to go with it.
Still You get a good insight into the problems and obstacles that occurred during the filming of Psycho. And there are also some great things and ideas done here. But it's not a documentary, it's a film with a story and actors and actresses who embody these real people and to put it simply the cast is incredibly stacked with…
I watched this immediately after watching Psycho! boxd.it/1T0XW7 <- Check out my thoughts on this link
The soft modern remake, behind the scenes and mere making of Hitchcock Masterpiece with incredible incredible Performance from ANTHONY HOPKINS!
The real inspiration to the Psycho character shown haunting uncle Alfred shown in this film is just so great.
Scarlett Johansson portraying Janet Leigh is just 😍😍 which includes the most iconic scene in film history with Scarlett ! Oh my.
Alma reading the Psycho book:
That is nothing, but low-budget horror movie claptrap.
Alfred: But what if someone really good made a horror picture?
PS that ending where Alfred breaks the fourth wall hinting just that his next movie's inspiration is from "birds" is just genius!
Directed by Sacha Gervasi and based on the book 'Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho' by Stephen Rebello, this movie acts as both a love story and an insight into the making of Psycho. It stars Anthony Hopkins in a fat suit as Alfred Hitchcock, Helen Mirren as his wife Alma, and Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh. I did not really know anything whatsoever about Alfred Hitchcock before watching the movie, and I've only ever seen a couple of brief clips of Psycho before so I was hoping this movie would be a nice introduction.
Now the problem I have here writing this review is that I have no idea how good Anthony Hopkins acting was as I haven't…
This movie was entertaining and fun to watch. Getting to know the personal life and method of work of the master was intriguing. But, the story line does not concentrate on a single particular feature of Hitchcock. In about 90 minutes it tries to tell the audience, Hitchcock's personal life with his wife, the making of Pyscho, the controversy that pyscho caused in the censor field, Alma's jealousy regarding Hitch's behaviour, how Hitch got along with his lead actresses and so on. As a result of this, there is minimal character development and hence the audience does not feel emotionally engaged with the characters on screen. I personally think it would have been a much better film had it focused on just one of the above mentioned plot points and explored it in full detail. Nevertheless it is a good film but it could have been so much better.
An interesting and enjoyable take on the making of Psycho. The movie also approached Alfred Hitchcock's relationship with his wife, giving the story a more dramatic tone. Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock was pretty convincing though I think the massive use of make up made his performance a bit contrived. On the other hand, Helen Mirren was remarkable and gave a stellar performance as his wife. There are a few embarassing scenes that weren't necessary and could have been cut, but there are also some great moments like the ending and one scene with Janet Leigh in the backstage (hilarious for those who've seen Psycho). Overall, the movie is consistently funny and entertaining even though uneven at times.
