Complete garbage. I didn't think Kevin Smith could make something worse than Tusk but boy was I wrong.
In all honesty? I througly enjoyed this. I know it went against the whole point of a horror anthology but I had a pretty great time watching it. Plus Seth Green is in it and Jesus was a zombie bunny. I love trash. Sorry.
Holidays is a horror anthology film with eight holiday themed segments that has been on my watchlist for quite awhile, so when searching for an Easter Sunday flick I realized there is an Easter Bunny segment here. That's all I need!
Valentine's Day - ★★★ - Maxine is a bullied high school teen commonly referred to as "Maxi-Pad" by her peers. She harbors a hidden crush on her coach, the only person in the building who doesn't treat her like trash. This is the normal course of life until Valentine's Day, when a series of events causes Max to snap and bring her coach a special gift.
This segment presents an example of just how depraved bullies can be, and…
OK, let's do this in details because it's fucking awful and I need to rant. I thought the idea of a horror anthology with each film putting a spin on a specific holiday sounded awesome, and the poster is pretty awesome too. This movie however... it's not awesome at all. Below are my thoughts on every segment.
"Valentine's Day" segment: obnoxiously bad acting and dialogue, the story of this girl with a crush on her swimming coach is very cringe-worthy, some moments are unintentionally funny, the visuals aren't bad though.
Rating: 1 out of 5
"St. Patrick's Day" segment: uncalled for slowmo mixed in with quick cuts, the kid is effectively creepy, but the story is absolutely absurd... Seriously, what…
I'm probably going to have nightmares tonight.
O M G
I had to stop during the Easter Bunny one.
Not really impressed with the previous short stories either.
😕
'Father's Day' was easily the most intriguing segment for me. Creepy atmosphere, good buildup and then a lazy tacked on ending and it ruined everything. It's like nobody working on this movie knew how the hell to end their story.
1. Valentine's Day⠀ ★★½
A bullied teen wants her coach as her valentine but bullies get in her way.
The bully was really irritating and I wanted to punch her so great job on that. The main character didn't talk at all which is interesting. A little simplistic overall but it felt very much like a Valentine's Day story, especially the ending. It's a shame they didn't show enough towards the end.
2. St. Patrick's Day⠀ ★★★
Elizabeth, a school teacher is pregnant... but, with what?
Rosemary's Baby meets Raised by Wolves (series). Some interesting visuals and camerawork here. Rosemary's Reptile scene made me laugh and also the intense clothes smelling. Good acting from Ruth Bradley. The little girl was…
Overall this was quite an enjoyable experience. There was something to take from every segment. My only real negatives are that with a few of the endings, like especially with the Father's Day one which really built up great suspense, it was like 'Oh, is that it?' And the Halloween segment wasn't all that Halloweeny.
A collection of horror vignettes set around eight different holidays, the anthology, "Holidays," is a watchable film that loudly communicates the perils of the form. Its weaker chapters lessening the entire experience, "Holidays" consists of some chilling ideas that are rarely developed enough to truly satisfy. These two issues, consistent with what always seems to bog down the anthology format, are not enough to make "Holidays" a bad film. They simply take away from the collection's sense of horrific fun, leaving it all to result in a mediocre overall offering.
Each vignette directed by a distinct filmmaking voice, the best known of which belonging to Kevin Smith, "Holidays" consists of stories revolving around the yearly slate of American-celebrated festive days.…
1 (Valentine's Day): Terrible, appalling, total shit. 0.5 out of 5
2 (St Patrick's Day): I'm guessing this was supposed to be funny and surreal? It wasn't. 1 out of 5
3 (Easter): A tale of how Easter's crazy mix of Christian and Pagan resurrection/rebirth myths can fuck with a kid's head, especially one whose dad has recently died. 3.5 out of 5
4 (Mother's Day): Watching new-age hippies cavort in the desert for no payoff was not how I wanted to spend 12 minutes of my life. 1 out of 5
5 (Father's Day): An interesting story about grief and the resurfacing of lost memories. The poor ending lets the whole thing down though. 2.5 out of 5
