HOP: Rebelde sin pascua, Бунт вухатих, הופ הארנב
a frightening combination of maddeningly stupid and instantly forgettable, a mixture which results in a feeling of intense yet unfocused anger, the movie itself far too unmemorable to allow the brain to even properly center its outrage. unrelentingly idiotic, persistently moronic, and supremely annoying, nobody involved demonstrates even the slightest astuteness for moviemaking (james marsden in particular is a truly terrible actor). at least now I've seen all of illumination. yay?
Maybe some days you just need a bad movie. This movie was bad and there’s no denying that, but it kinda hit the spot (that make sense)? Maybe it’s because of all the good films I watch, it was fun to watch a bad movie with my siblings and just poke fun at a lot of things, but I really enjoyed watching this. Hadn’t seen it since it came out in theaters, so didn’t know what to expect. Now, there were definitely some parts I didn’t enjoy, but I didn’t care too much. Also, is it just me or is James Marsden a really fun actor. I know he’s not very good, but I really have fun with the films…
The other day, Lotus (my eleven-year-old) and I were sitting at a traffic light and the damn thing was taking forever to turn green.
“What is going on with this light?!” I groaned. “You know what this light can do, Lotus?”
“What can it do, Daddy?”
“This light... CAN GO SUCK AN EGG!!”
I got a pretty good laugh from Lo, and kinda liked how it rolled off my tongue, so when a cyclist swerved in front of us a few blocks later, I tried it again:
“You know what that cyclist can do, don’t you?”
“Suck an egg?”
“Suck a POACHED EGG!”
And so it went for the rest of the ride home. Anyone that provoked my ire was…
Is it strange that I find the transformation sequence of the villain in this highly effective? What is it about an inanimate object changing a creature's make-up to something they were not expecting? Maybe it's just me or maybe there's a word for it, I don't know. While not much good is happening here, that is at least something I can give it credit for.
At the beginning your my first thought was "Willy Wonka!"
Those lil bunnies workin away in their awesome Easter factory there. Easter Island .. clever!
EB was too cute!
Loved the drums!
Such a fun movie.
Even "cracked" me up laughing.

Part 2 Epi 1-3
Uggh. This little Easter tradition gets dumber and more obnoxious every time I revisit it. At least my kids seem to enjoy it.
Happy Easter everyone!
I watched this in my car last night. There was something outside my door at one point, moaning and scratching at the rusted yellow paint. I didn't pause the movie. The sounds outside my car got louder, and I waited for my heart to start thrashing.
Hop the Rabbit plays music the way I want to live my life. Uproarious and aching and terrified. Even without earphones, Hop parades around his village like there's an neverending song in his heart.
There's nothing outside my car anymore. This morning I opened the door and screamed "Come back! Come here!" Even if it were to rip me apart, even if it were to be nothing but the turn of my own gaze, there's still something I need to ask it.
And they act like there's still a song inside me.
More interested in playing the drums than taking over the family trade, the son of the Easter bunny causes all sorts of problems when he runs away from home in this animation/live action blend. The film begins decently enough with imaginative candy factory interiors and an always fun James Marsden doing his thing, but the whole thing soon becomes casually racist (an anti-China flashback; making fun of the Easter Island statues), while Russell Brand quickly turns grating as the crass rabbit son. Perhaps if the film had been marketed more towards adults, a la Ted, Brand's schtick may have worked, but hearing him calling himself "incredibly sexy" and talk about "hot babes" seems massively out-of-place in a children's fantasy film like this. There are occasional bright moments here (impromptu ventriloquism) but this is generally grating to watch.

Between Despicable Me 2 and this, I honestly have the feeling somebody at Illumination Entertainment has a beef with Latin American people.
Weird, considering how popular their movies are in this part of the globe.
I am fully aware of this movie's shortcomings and cringe-worthy aspects, but there's something about watching blue-eyed James Marsden sidekicked with a CG talking rabbit that brings me back every Easter. Yes, I've made it a tradition to watch 'HOP' each year the beloved holiday makes its presence. Apologies to my boyfriend, whose forced to watch it with me~
