If the editing wasn’t such a disaster, if they focused less on being so trendy and more on the writing, if this town where supposedly everyone smokes weed had characters that seemed like they actually smoke weed, and if the whole thing just made more sense...
we might actually have something great here.
They’re lucky they got Timothée Chalamet because if it were anyone else I feel like nobody would really want to watch this
Timothée Chalamet now has scoliosis from carrying the entire weight of this movie on his back
Coming of age is a constant negotiation between who you are and who you’re not — it’s the most intense period of a process that will last for the rest of your life. Coming-of-age movies naturally tend to dramatize that negotiation, which is why so many of them hinge on hollowed out Harry Potter types who become the most boring characters in their own stories: It’s easier to paint on a portrait on a blank slate, easier to keep score of what someone is adding to (or subtracting from) themselves when you start from scratch. The only problem with that approach is that it strands a lot of very similar teenagers in films about how they’re not like everyone else.…
this is a picture of my friend Timmy. he used to be a sweet, happy popular kid until one night he snorted marijuana at a party. he died instantly. please, don't do marijuana. it's the most dangerous drug out there. please don't wind up like Timmy.
characters are one of the most important aspects of a film !! wish i could watch a movie with some one day :)
i'm not saying this would have been so much better if it was gay bUT THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I'M SAYING
The fact my family decided they wanted to watch this with me is essentially a hate crime
I was really charmed by the first half of this movie. The music was great and the premise was very promising. But the protagonist made some decisions that where so incredibly stupid and unrealistic that I had a hard time taking the rest of the film seriously.
I really love these American summer movies though. The best one being Wet hot American summer, of course. For some reason they always make me nostalgic even though I didn’t live that kind of life.
yes the plot was chaotic but that’s what i love abt it! listening to interviews of how it was created like i just thought it was so sick. it’s a movie that really feels like a movie and i think we need more of those.
this is the only way i can explain that you can enjoy movies that aren’t technically good. From a critic standpoint, this is bad, but from a viewer standpoint, it’s an addictive movie that i watch every weekend. If i was rating this purely on the entertainment level, I would give it a 4/5 (8/10), but since i’m being critical here, i’ll give it a 3/5 (6/10).
An extremely effective pastiche of 90s paul thomas Anderson and Quentin Tarantino and GTA vice city. A kinetic, consciously chillwave assault of thrilling moments and needle-drops. Sexy.
I really enjoyed this film. Not your usual 'teen' summer film as I expected it to be. Well shot film.
really loved the film kinda portrays teen drug use weirdly tho but i’m in love w half the cast so idc
Has any reviewer stated "Hot Summer Nights is a metaphor for the mind of a teenager"
Cool movie, great looking, good casting. Should be a staple for 17 year old's who love drug movies.
3 out of 5 with a like - The first and second act couldn't be more different, for good or bad, so the letting off of steam is a bit unexpected and kind of kills the excitement. On the good side of things, it does add character depth. The tension is high, and Timmy is awesome.
