Guests of a country inn begin disappearing and dying.
I'm a Barry J. Gillis fan. I own all his films and have watched them multiple times. There's something genuine and strange about his films I can't quite describe but find mesmerizing. Barry also seems like a genuinely nice, humble person in interviews, which is refreshing given the amount of sleazy egomaniacs in the lower budget indie realm Barry works in.
I'm happy to see this film continues the streak of showing the film that came before it within the film. He's done this in all of his previous films and I correctly predicted he'd do it again in this one.
The story is straight forward and linear, and I think it could have used some more of Barry's weirdness.…
Never thought I’d see a Barry J Gillis movie featuring Johnny Cash and Ron Howard. I guess that’s because I never, ever, would’ve thought he’d just use footage from other movies willy nilly. The balls on Barry. What a legend.
But this movie is poopy doodie. Not as experimental or watchable as Things or even Wicked World. Unfortunately it seems the convenience of digital “filmmaking” makes lazy bastards of us all, even the most extreme weirdos on the fringes of society. Funny to see Elric Kane and RedLetterMedia thanked in the end credits.
Urgh. BJG donne vraiment l'impression d'être un bon vieux libidineux. Pis le numérique n'a vraiment pas le même charme que l'image toute décrissée d'un bon vieux VHS.
Same old psycho serial killer running a B&B fare you've seen a hundred times in no-budget films since the 80's. For what equates to modern day shot-on-video, it lacks that over the top charm makes many of those enjoyable, leaving this just a void of anything resembling entertainment, or logic. It's just bullet points of thousands of films being repeated without any finesse whatsoever. And some public domain trailers just for the fuck of it.
But at least that reminded me how much I liked Door to Door Maniac and how I should probably revisit it.
You know what Barry? Go fuck yourself!
I had the same problem already with The Killing Games, that there is plot for 30 minutes and then shit just continues without rhyme or reason. But now you just end fucking midscene? Are you kidding me? Fuck this.
Just pathetic.
Take all the worst aspects of Barry's previous films and remove any leftover schlock and you end up with this lifeless corpse
I’ll give Barry J. Gillis a little bit of credit. It would be easy to capitalize on the “so bad it’s good” success of THINGS and continuously make utterly incompetent genre pictures that feel like an alien transmission. But alas, he is actually continuing to make films in earnest, and HOUSE OF MANY SORROWS is technically his best, and by that I mean instead of feeling like it was made on another planet, it feels like a bad-to-mediocre student film made on this planet.
It’s more coherent and more technically “accomplished” than THINGS or WICKED WORLD, but unfortunately it yields a very boring experience. Like those previous films, you can see the movie it wants to be, in this case,…
Barry J. Gillis never fails to deliver. This one will make you want to start wearing turle necks and pajama pants 24/7.
Calling this a movie would be insulting to the invention of cinema. This is what happens when someone takes your money and trolls you.
