He's a nice guy, he's kinda soft and ineffectual, and those qualities bring him into conflict with the reaities of his daily life to such an extent that I wondered how he survived to adulthood. Do Octavio Paz' ideas in that seventy-year-old book stll hold weight as an analysis of Mexican culture? Cuz this is straight-up lifted from that el chingado/el chingon section of Labyrinth O S, and once "he" decides to be El Chingon, the movie slides into horror-adjacent territory. Nothing wrong here, but the same exact ideas were explored By A. Garcia Bogliano in Scherzo Diabolico/Evil Games, much more effectively.
