  “i miss you. i miss you a lot”

  there’s a kind of genre twist in here that i won’t spoil just in case (because truth be told i didn’t know about it myself) and it made the experience all the more affecting. many shots are intimately close and intertwine the past with the present and fiction with reality. i really loved this

  this film lets you feel how dealing with childhood traumas and past emotional turmoils as an homosexual immigrant is some other level of internal struggle, because all the amount of prejudices and discrimination you have to face and endure can neither be just equated to nor measured by anything so easily.

  I CARRY YOU WITH ME has been a highlight of this year’s NYFF for me. Emotional direction by Heidi Ewing that really resonates. Captivating cinematography with a beautifully understated score by Jay Wadley that sets the mood perfectly. Went in a direction that I did not expect.

  i carry you with me is a bit odd. the structure, jumping back and forth between three timelines then shifting to documentary two-thirds of the way through, is jarring to say the least... the imbalance in tone and aesthetic ultimately makes it feel like two different movies in one (which it practically is; the project began as a documentary). the hodgepodge of narrative threads it tries, and pretty much fails, to weave together also dont help and none end in a particularly satisfying way, making for a mess of a final product. but its pretty! and it made me cry!

  Such a beautiful and captivating movie. One of those rare docu dramas that starts as a movie for the background story then In the 3rd act goes fully documentary showing us the real life people we saw In the first part of the movie.

  I carry you with me is a love story between two Mexican immigrants who risk their life for love and achieve the American dream. Heidi Ewing did a beautiful job in her narrative debut. The two leads in the first part are so damn good and the real life ones will make you proud of them and also break you heart and frustrate you as well. Beautiful cinematography which always makes…
