  An animated film of great gentleness in both soundtrack and interpretation. A fable set in ancient Crete, freely inspired and revisited, where several Greek mythologies intertwine in this sublime visual with the touching story of Icarus and Asterion. You're totally immersed in the stakes of the characters and in total empathy with the boy and his friend, who are extremely touching as they learn about life and refuse to be betrayed. The dialogues are real poetic jewels, as moving and luminous as if you were at the opera. When you finish this magical work, you come away completely moved, with its many references, hidden away like Easter eggs, whether architectural or psychological, this masterpiece is a symbol.

  The final scene is one of infinite beauty that pierces your soul and brings tears to your eyes, and I'm surprised I've never heard of it because it's clearly worth watching

  Icarus slipped through my fingers earlier this year when it was playing in French cinemas. I jumped on it the second it came to streaming. It is a revisionist take on a classical myth, something that has a tendency to tick me off but isn't inherently bad (I am well-disposed to Grendel Grendel Grendel, for example).

  In this case, we have a version of the story of Theseus and the Minotaur that is relatively faithful to the actions of individuals in the myth but switches around their motivations. Most curiously, Pasiphae is depicted completely sympathetically; Daedalus is portrayed antagonistically (like many animated single parents); and Ariadne is a vamp. She is voiced by the Parisian Bitch herself, Camille Cottin. Minos…

  The Minotaur legend twisted into a hollow kiddie doomed friendship and fate tale wich it serves as a backdrop for.

  While trying to flesh them out more than simple mythological figures, the film turns the classic character into more caricatural figures with a very thin hint of something more (that will probably only be caught by older watchers), and the Icare myth is recycled into a fine but mundane story with no consideration for it or its meaning.

  
  A very cute design for Asterion, the Minotaur turned into an oracle for the hero, who keeps prophetising Icarus' well-known fate. And an overall interesting style proposition (very stylised angular figures) for CGI productions, thanks to the designer who has a comicbook…

  Easily my favourite Greek myth is where Pasiphae browbeats Daedalus into building get a convincing cow outfit so she can trick the most beautiful bull in the world into fucking her. Here the more ludicrous elements of Greek mythology, that story included, are somewhat toned down. It leads to an acceptable but rather bland retelling of the stories everyone is already familiar with. Nice animation, though, especially in the labyrinth.

  This is one of those films that I didn’t plan to watch at all and was blown away by. 
  Icare doesn’t change much to the myths we all know and love, maybe just a bit, but what you’re in for is a love letter to the animation medium. It’s just gorgeous, breathtaking, sensual at times ! 
  Watch this film to take a break from the usual big budget animation we’re fed.
  This is a work of passion.

  J’ai beaucoup aimé la façon dont le mythe a été raconté, surtout le foreshadowing tout du long (mes fav: les toutes premières paroles d’Aspérion à Icare et le moment où l’emblème d’Athènes apparaît derrière Icare!!). La fin était très belle et très triste. Pasiphaé était super intéressante, alors qu’Ariane était juste vaine et superficielle et ça m’a bien soulé pcq à la fin on a l’impression qu’elle mérite ce qu’il lui est arrivé alors que Thésée est juste un fuckboi.

  C’est une réalisation de Carlo Vogele, un ancien de Pixar aillant travaillée sur Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Rebelle et Monstres Academy. Elle a écrit le scénario avec Isabelle Andrivet.

  
  Ce film d’animation va nous donner sa version du mythe d’Icare. Ancrée dans la mythologie grecque, elle est connue pour l'homme qui se brûlait les ailes trop près du soleil. C’est une histoire vraiment passionnante, et il est donc très intéressant de voir cette vision où sont explorées son histoire personnelle et son enfance. Icare est adapté pour les enfants et les adultes tant il est complet par les couches de messages transmis.

  On va se laisser prendre par cette ambiance très bien instaurée. La bande originale est tout simplement…
