When I first saw this movie, in theaters, I came out of it thinking it was a 3.5 at best. Over the years, and which each viewing, it just grows. What I used to think was dumb and hokey, now seems completely masterful.
My initial reading of how love transcends time and space was far too literal, and the science nerd in me just wouldn't let it slide. I realize now that the film is not trying to argue that love is a force of nature. It is arguing that if you observe humanity from outside time and space, love is a force you can harness. It's not love, really. It's our connections to each other.
Love brings humans closer together, just like gravity brings large objects together. Just like this film brings my face and my tears closer together, every time.
