Like The Act of Killing, it is a quiet (albeit accidental) masterpiece of access to the subject of sexual sadist murders. It is so frightening how banal these evils can be. It will make you realize how dumb a lot of serial murder depictions are in fiction. These people are often functional and indistinguishable from us and then when they enter their predatory mode they are indistinguishable from a monster like a polar bear or a crocodile.
If you have ever asked yourself “how did they not know, weren’t there warning signs?”, see this film.

A truly jaw-dropping "Making of a Murderer" documentary that is one-of-a-kind because the filmmaker was filming the guy for a year before he brutally killed a woman on his submarine. It's an unnerving watch that puts all the pieces together. Knowing what's about to happen, it's remarkable to see all the footage she has before this guy went out and murdered this woman. It's a reminder that there are always signs, we just never seem to want to believe them. And yet there he is, right there in her footage plain as day, pretty much straight up explaining how he's a psychopath who preys on people. It's nuts.
Netflix is releasing this doc and I highly recommend watching even if you aren't into true crime just because it's such a shocking "holy shit, really?!?" film.

Absolutely fascinating documentary about a completely delusional inventor who also appears to be a madman who murders a Swedish journalist.
A deeply disturbing and dark documentary. It's horrifying to see the pieces fit together. Filming started before the crime happened and hindsight definitely gives the footage a different shade, one that Emma Sullivan brilliantly exploits to paint the horrors of this man's character. A truly shocking watch.
I can't imagine making a documentary about amateur inventors and then it becomes this. Insane!
