One of the most engaging non-American made Superhero films I have ever seen. I am unfamiliar with the source material, except through occasional word of mouth, but I have heard pretty great things. Going into the film, I was somewhat aware of the quality of the film I would be getting, as I had previously watched some of the director Shinsuke Sato's other works: Bleach & I Am a Hero. Some really entertaining adaptations, with some missteps here and there. However Inuyashiki surprised me by having way less missteps than expected and being thoroughly great throughout the entire movie.
The main issues arise from the main characters family and lack of interaction with them.…
Shinsuke Sato’s I Am A Hero is one of the best zombie movies of the last decade, and the director delivers again with another refreshingly energetic adaptation.
Inuyashiki is a great superhero film, a great sci-fi actioner, and a great anime/manga adaptation all in one. An otherworldly force converts two unsuspecting citizens into weaponized androids; our hero’s the elderly salaryman dad, our villain’s the unstable teenager with a sadistic streak. The effects are fantastic, whether we’re seeing the characters’ internal machinery or their climactic robo-thruster brawl through the skies and buildings of Tokyo.
As an adaptation, seemed far more cohesive and coherent than most modern live-action anime/manga I’ve watched, while still capturing the visual dynamism of the original medium. (I…
Wow.. This is quite surprising; it’s might be one of the better manga adaptation movie, and one of the darkest, brutal superhero story out there. Imagine mashing up all of these titles and pour into a blender; Nobody, Chronicle, Akira, Iron Man, Death Note, Man of Steel, Gantz, etc. Story is about two men suddenly gifted a godly power; an old salary man who is being a total loser in his family and workplace, and another one is a broken home teenager who is going to lash out his inner anger to the society. Both of them have their own ways to use their godly powers and in the end they have to clash each other with the background of…
My favorite old man superhero got a live action movie!
The cyborg/robot effects looked great in this, the budget on this one must have been nothing to sneeze at. I actually thought it was a good adaptation of the comic, it streamlined the core story and trimmed off all the side stories. I missed some of the more nuanced characterizations, and oh my god they added a weakness that’s SO STUPID, but overall I really liked it. Plus they added a shirtless robot slug fest which I am totally here for.
Shoutout to Takeru Satoh (who plays Kenshin in those live action adaptations) who had me all like “damn that ruthless mass murderer can get it”

Lemah. Kecuali tenaga dalamnya tersulut. Kan rempong kalau gitu.
Lo and behold, one of the best superhero films of the last decade has an aging salaryman as lead and comes from Japan (bet the salaryman bit gave that away).
A wonderful story with some familiar but well executed character arcs and some amazing effects and action that give Hollywood films with 30 times the budget a run for their money.
Absolutely recommended!

Probably my new favourite superhero film; no kidding. While it’s shrouded within similar genre tropes, this still manages to be wholly unique and a great character study to boot. The villain is marvellous, despicable and unrelenting in his actions, but somehow you feel for him.
