JTYJN, 알아도 그만, 몰라도 사랑
Childhood memories. Serious nostalgia for me lmfao.
Man, despite all the cliches and melodramatic stuff, I will never not love this film. The songs, the humor, the heartbreak, the college friendships, it's a modern classic I'd say.
It is too long like most Bollywood stuff, but man is it fresh and fun.
Highly recommend it to my foreign friends and followers.
If anyone ever asks me who my perfect guy is, my answer will always be: Jai Singh Rathore.
Part of my Bollywood Challenge
Here is writer-director Abbas Tyrewala's feature debut, introducing actor Imran Khan to the big screen as the main character Jai Singh Rathore. The film also introduced Tyrewala to the actress Punarnava Mehta (now known as Paakhi A. Tyrewala), who directed one of the song sequences and subsequently became the director's wife. Ain't Bollywood romance grand?
And romance is certainly the core theme of this dramedy. A group of friends drives out to Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. One of them is Jignesh aka 'Jiggy' (Nirav Mehta), who is taking his crush Mala (Renuka Kunzru) on a date, of sorts. Actually, it's a bit of a busman's holiday, because she works as a stewardess and hates…
"Jay, I always drop you home!"
This single dialogue has the depth which depicts their ages old friendship and camaraderie during college. The moment is so casually portrayed that it doesn't look forced and touches my guts. Perhaps, one of those relatable moments the film has.
About the film -
Inundated with post-college sensibilities, elements indigenous to years old friendship, cute possessiveness, harmless humor, obscure love, allusions towards elite part of society and more importantly witty dialogues a perpetual soothing air of Abbas Tyrewala style of writing; this film is a big gun for me.
I reminisce my college days and how my gang went to watch this multiple times at cheap tickets and enjoyed every single time, coming out…
If this is your first Indian film maybe it shouldn’t be, since it’s too atypical.
The way it starts... it is not for the uninitiated -it starts with REAL people onscreen and they will start narrating the story of friends of theirs that also look and behave... like real people.
Maybe by now I should say that I do know that actors are people too, but you probably guessed what I mean: they are not made to look like stars, their imperfections hidden, shot to their best advantage, against some dreamy scenery.
That is what will probably make casual Netflix viewers give up, since it doesn’t start “glamorous” but those who persist may feel rewarded later on.
It is clearly…
Bruh where is Imran Khan. We need him back.
A self-aware rom-com that falls prey to its own style sometimes. It's still thoroughly enjoyable and refreshing. Very 2000s and unapologetically so. Needless to say, the songs are definitely the best part of this movie. You can't go wrong when you hire A.R.Rahman. Kabhi Kabhi Aditi is a classic and most of the other songs are also very iconic.
At many levels, this works as a healthy reminder that masala films are important and unique to India. His mom's idealist overbearing is sort of representative of the westernized style of filmmaking or even westernized discourse. The protagonist breaking free from that in a mythicized and surreal fashion only goes to show…
It is 2021 and 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' is still the most woke romcom made in Bollywood.
You can call me crazy but now I am addicted to this movie. My 3rd time watching it and I can't get enough.
I should've rather done drugs than this movie.
I've always heard about the movie but I've never actually watched it. So I decided to give it a try and oh boi watching it was the best decision ever.
THIS MOVIE was that love story I've been craving to watch for like I don't know how long. I feel so connected to the story that I am going all Mala "WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT" right now.
Also it casts Genelia, the one I've been crushing on for like literally half my childhood (like c'mon who did not). So I can't not simp for this movie.
I want more movies like this
Also I demand an Aditi for my college life too🥺
Everything was fine except the airport sequence at the end. It was too much of a cliche bollywood scene which if we compare with reality is baseless . Movie was lovely, cute and watchable even to today's date until if you don't like love stories.
you ever rewatch something and realize the way it burned into your brain and thus bled into everything you’ve ever done
I watched this movie just for a break from everything and it gave me just that. There’s something about that era of Bollywood that oozes warmth and comfort to me.
