The marriage drama does deal with sensitive topics of conditioned patriarchy, gender equality and double standards of our conservative society, but does it with quite an interesting ironical narrative treatment, taking you by surprise with highly enjoyable comical moments and parodies. At the same time, it effectively passes on the intended message as well. The fight sequences were hilariously executed and was compounded further by good choice of peppy music. Darshana was simply kickass and Basil perfectly supports her. Azeez Nedumangad was outright funny during the second half. On the whole, the drama ends up as one pleasantly entertaining watch. Highly recommended.
It was very triggering to begin with. There are things I think the film doesn't deal with properly. Like the humour didn't work for me at many places. Domestic abuse was treated like a viral meme parody in the second half. Pretty understandable because men wrote the film. But I liked how it demonstrated why reactive abuse happens(many a times that's the only way out for women). Manju Pillai stole the last scene. Give her more films, you cowards!
ps: It was nice to see a women-packed theatre screen after years. I also saw two old men leaving the theatre immediately after that *scene* lmao.

Also props to the director for his detailing, the characters actually behave and talk like people from kollam, even their surroundings feel like you are in kollam. A supremely relevant social commentary against the many toxic and regressive patriarchal norms that sadly plague our society even today. And boy, does this film take it all to the crunch! An unapologetic satire which is hilarious, rollicking, and jam-packed with laugh-out-loud moments. It refuses to pull any punches, and rightly so. Basil Joseph is here to stay. Darshana Rajendran is fierce in this. The supporting cast is brilliant. There are some mild pacing issues here and there, but that could be overlooked for the sake of the urgency of the message it has to deliver and the overall fun packaging. Try to watch this in a packed house. Thankfully, the crowd for the show I watched was incredibly receptive and the response was fantastic.
P. S. I’m itching to rave about two scenes where the film peaks, but not doing so for fear of spoilers.
Jaya Jaya Hey suffers so much from the male gaze and misunderstanding domestic abuse and benevolent sexism as just important enough to be used as a joke fodder. I personally can't fathom the fact that this is presented as some sort of mass entertainer, there exists a clear lack of nuance and surface level understanding of the issue that they are dealing with it. Maybe it's just me. I don't know. I can give them props for accurately presenting reactive abuse and familial trauma. A premise that so beaten to death and usually is given a "pretentious", "melodrama" approach is given a whackier and satirical approach which makes it inventive enough. The stunt choroeographer Felix and Production design deserves great laurels for creating an atmosphere similar to "Kung Fu Hustle" and at the same time writers Vipin Das, Nashid and Ajith Kumar gave a strong commentary on domestic abuse. Darshana is truly one of the breakout stars of 2022 cinema!
"Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey" is truly a "Thallumala" that makes you entertained and put on your thinking caps!

This movie succeeds big time in entertaining the audience, it’s very fun to watch this movie…I might even revisit this for that kinda feeling.BUT, I just can’t get past the fact that they were going so easy on the marital abuse and torture in the court….like as if they forgor abt everything and it was all abt Jaya just having her mass comeback moment. A person watching this movie with a different opinion in mind…
