Jenny Slate's first stand-up special is a mix of stage time, funny stories about adulthood and conversations with family in her childhood home.
“have you ever seen a woman flirt with 400 people before?”
jenny slate is #1. naturally the funniest person alive and #2. too good for captain america
this has the same ending as Love Streams (1984) and personally i think more comedy specials should end by paying homage to the works of john cassavetes
“i’m talking about a house that’s like PUMPIN’ with apparitions like truly TEAMING with ghosts like dead people that are like I HAVE A MESSAGE AND I WANT TO SEND IT AND I’M SENDING IT NOW like it’s the SCARIEST fucking place in the world no holds barred these ghosts are HAPPENING”
the way jenny slate effortlessly balances poop and masturbation jokes with heartwarming conversations about confronting loneliness and romanticizing life its called talent and she’s the only person who has it
i wanted my review to be a funny quote but truly the best bit, the had-me-gasping-for-air bit, was when she went to bed so pumped for the next day that she accidentally made excited faces all night instead of actually sleeping. jenny slate silently doing faces on stage is funnier than most things i've ever seen or heard
“I will say when I was younger I looked almost exactly like Anne Frank and I was incredibly stuck up about it”
BORN WITH THE HORNINESS OF A 57 YEAR OLD DIVORCÉE WHO'S LIKE "MAMA LOVES TO FUCK... WHO'S UP? TICK TOCK, ROMEO. LET'S GO"
jenny slate just makes me feel like no matter what happens in life its all going to somehow be okay and sometimes u just need that!!!!
Kristen Stewart told me to watch this, so I did, and I have no regrets. Jenny is hilarious, I love her.
I don't usually add stand up specials to my letterboxd. but these 66 minutes are the best thing that have ever happened to me and i'm getting the entire final joke/anecdote tattoed on my face
“Born with the horniness of a 57-year-old divorcée”
Every time I watch this I’m like holy eff Jenny girl same
More stand up specials should take a detour into ghost story documentary halfway through.
