  Django Prepare a Coffin is unlike most of the Django series for the fact that it was intended as a legitimate follow up to Sergio Corbucci's original film. Beyond that the main thrust of the plot is fairly standard Spaghetti Western revenge fair, which sees the title character on the hunt for justice after his wife was killed by a crooked politician. We then see Django become a hangman with a hustle - he's saving men from the gallows and putting his own gang together!   me, watching this movie: Oh hey, George Eastman! Holy hell, this third act is wild. SO MUCH BLOOD. Wait, the main theme really sounds like Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”, doesn’t it? Gosh George Eastman is tall.

  The Years of Lead

  "Even hate has a price."

  All the greed, corruption, and betrayal of your usual spaghetti western with another inspired existential cinematic metaphor with a man's own coffin buried at the center. Terence Hill replaces Franco Nero as Django, a cowboy trying to settle down with his wife after his misadventures in the first film. He keeps making friends with the wrong sort of people, though, and his ambitious politician friend David Barry and his cronies ambush a wagon-bound gold shipment Django and his wife were riding shotgun to protect, stealing the gold and killing the (un)happy couple.

  I'm a big fan of Quentin Tarantino, but I don't think he's beyond criticism despite the fact he's yet to make a movie I haven't loved. One film that bothered me a little was Django Unchained, despite thinking it's a brilliant movie, it bugged me a little that Tarantino used the name Django but made little to no attempt at making the character like the original.

  I let that go though because he was hardly the first director to use Django with little regard for the original film. Hell some movies have Django in it's title while not actually having a character by that name in the actual movie! Still though, I would have thought that Tarantino and his love…

  Django does his part for the cause of criminal justice reform by faking the hangings of a bunch of wrongfully convicted citizens, then enlisting their help in order to clear their names and avenge the murder of his wife. Does that make him crazy?

  Missing Franco Nero but Terrence Hill makes a pretty damn good substitute, looking so much like the original character it's almost uncanny. Some great stuntwork and action, too, including one of the gnarliest full body burns I've ever seen in a movie - hopefully they did not just set a dude on fire and film his death throes in order to achieve it, even though that's what it looks like.

  Django and his band of resurrected men. Terrance Hill takes over the mantle from “too busy” Franco Nero. Unlike a lot of Django knockoffs, this one actually works as a legitimate sequel, and apparently was planned as such. Hill’s no Nero, but he definitely has the blue eyes for it. Hill hadn’t yet “made it,” this film coming a few years shy of his more comedic star-turn in My Name Is Trinity, but it’s a solid proving ground for the relatively new-to-top-billing actor.

  Employed by a corrupt politician a mysterious hangman Django goes town to town and executes innocent farmers who are framed for crimes they didn't commit as the politician wants to take over their lands. Django shows no mercy and performs his duty with precision only it turns out he isn't. He is saving all the farmers by staging fake executions and bringing all of them together to form his own army to get back at people who murder his wife 5 years ago who are his own boss and his right hand a bandit leader.

  I always though Terence Hill was a dead ringer for Franco Nero. So who better to star in one of the countless Django knock-offs that came out in the wake of the originals success. Let’s call them “Djangoploitation”. And all things considered, this isn’t a bad one. It’s a classic revenge story, well-shot and with tons of gun-action. Terence does his best Django impression (and he makes a damn good one), Horst Frank and George Eastman always make compelling and devious villains and even the coffin with the Gatling gun makes an (guest) appearance. It’s all there for Western and especially “Djangoploitation” fans, to enjoy. I at least, had a good time!

  Like most of the best westerns, this is a fun tale of multiple betrayals, revenge and even has a few interesting twists that actually surprised me. Plus it has a dude being shot in the face with an upside down gun, buildings burning, stage coach robberies, hangings, a man on fire, and an ending that had me cheering out loud.

  Lightning doesn't strike twice in this semi-official (whatever that means) follow-up to the spaghetti western classic, Django. Despite being purported as a legitimate installment to feature the titular character, Django, Prepare a Coffin lacks the brutality, Sergio Corbucci's stylish direction, and, most importantly, the man himself, Franco Nero. It's a husk of its former glory with it being a rather conventional western.

  There isn't a whole lot to help differentiate itself from the countless plethora of films that attempted to cash on Django's success. Other films like Django Kill...If You Live, Shoot do more to deserve their names than this installment. A man double-crossed and left for dead, causing him to swear revenge on those who betrayed him.   Natürlich hat "Django und die Truppe der Gehenkten" wenig mit Corbuccis Kultfilm zu tun, außer der Tatsache dass man Terence Hill hier ähnlich gestyled hat. Die systemkritische Story ist aber tatsächlich interessant und der Score, ebenso wie das Finale, schlichtweg göttlich.
