Joy is so messy not even her damn mop can clean it up. A total bore that takes away everything that makes David O. Russell's films stand out in the first place and replaces these elements with a cliched, Lifetime Channel movie plot and caricatures.
If you couldn't tell, I didn't like this movie.
Rarely have I felt so
indifferent towards a film.
Rating may rise or
drop upon re-watch but,
as of right now, I have
nothing but apathy for Joy.
This movie is about the invention of a mop. Sounds boring right? Nope. David O. Russell and Jennifer Lawrence manages to make a story about the invention of a mop super engrossing and fun.
A lot of people are disliking Joy and I'm sitting here trying to figure out why. Like Steve Jobs and Straight Outta Compton, Joy isn't your typical biopic. It's energetic, fun, and has a whole lotta heart. Jennifer Lawrence was absolutely fantastic. Her second best performance to date; her best being Silver Linings Playbook. The ensemble cast is great. Even though Cooper and DeNiro don't get a whole lot of screen time, they make the most out of it. Both were excellent.
Sure the film is…
Did they just got to Wikipedia, click random and decide to make a movie on the first page to come up?
umm hello? you guys (the internet) had me thinking this movie was gonna be below average for years! pure lies! this was so wonderful!? it had me close to tears twice - over a mop! a Mop!!!! oh my god her family were unbelievable. the rage i felt. amazing hairstyles, impeccable. Every scene beautifully chaotic. this was not what I expected in any way shape of form, couldn’t have predicted a thing about it. I loved this!!!!! What! Maybe it’s just me but!! very good movie to me!
*eyes narrow*
I'm very suspicious of anyone who thinks this is a good movie. I assume all the positive reviews are David O. Russell alt accounts.
If this didn't have famous people in it my mom would be watching it on premium cable thursday night.
I'd let JLaw mop me tho.

Strong Performances - Jennifer Lawrence
Polarising stances have somewhat deemed David O. Russell finally breaking his ambitious streak, crafting upon three consecutive prominent successes, finding his hand slightly trembling in his construction of his supposed next opus, Joy. However, I digress from the core tangent and finding myself in deeper awe towards Russell’s latest, a bravado for his regular collaborator Jennifer Lawrence, instilled with his impressive focus into his characters, previously blueprinted with ambition as it handled an ensemble cast, now with a central focus, more so than his previously more personal of character studies, The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook.
Embarking upon a tale of a woman in an environment of shortcomings and pressure,…
Mother of mercy, I hated this film, which addresses David O. Russell's pet themes (toxic families, mental illness, survival techniques, self-discovery) in the most baldly overwritten, comically exaggerated way possible. How do professionals and longtime industry veterans make a movie this clumsy, broad, and miscast, and why did some people fall for it? Full rant for The Verge here.
David O. Russell, America’s most prolific chronicler of great people weighed down by their asshole relatives.
