A thematically rich- well nuanced- slow burn period drama, one that fictionalizes the madcap showbiz days of Hindi film industry during the early times of partitioned India. While it solidly establishes the complexly layered characters and its dark world during the initial five episodes, it does demand your patience. From there on, it picks up good momentum, gets much darker and deeper, and keeps the proceedings far more absorbing. It holds a melancholic melody within all its brooding treatment. The finale wraps it all quite well.
The tone, pacing, dialogues and historical political context provide a heightened sense of drama. Technical values are top scale, especially the production design and cinematography. The entire cast put on a good show, however taking the center stage with their electrifyingly charming performances are Sidhant Gupta and Wamiqa Gabbi. It is not without its shortcomings, but Vikramaditya Motwane manages to once again give a genuinely original and satisfying product.
The amount of "Madan Kumar bhenc#*d" has been incorporated in this show is just music to my ears.
Bombay Velvet walked, so that Jubilee could run.
I loved it. And, I'm sure everyone who loves films will find something here that will be very close to their heart. More than the plot, which is a fictionalized retelling of multiple different events and people mixed into one, it was the deep study and celebration of our films, & the people who make films, that moved me.
So, it didn't matter to me whether Binod Das would get caught or what would happen with Sumitra Devi or whether Jay Khanna will marry Niloufer. What touched me were the scenes where, Jay Khanna bets everything he has on the studio, where Roy Babu decides to gamble all the savings to make the…

-Yeh camera bade kamal ki cheez hoti hai, Jay babu. Usmein se tu duniya ko wo dikha sakta hai jo tu dekhta hai, jisse tu dikhana chahta hai. Kisi ko kabhi hero, kabhi villain, haara, toota, vijayi ya akela, kuch bhi dikha sakta hai. Sab tera nazariya hai.
Partition Era stories are my all time favourite genre, but sadly we don't have much films on that. Glad to see this masterpiece.
Vikramaditya GOATwane, truly!
Grandiose, ambitious, delicious, fabulous, exquisite, thrilling, captivating period saga about logistics, magic and love of cinema and it’s makers…Amit and Alokananda 🎺 🎶 🎼 🎵 🙇♀️
Jubilee is one of the most beautiful shows that has come out of India. And, this is not my bias or sheer love towards Vikramaditya Motwane speaking. You'll know when you'll see it. This show is a treat to all the cinephiles, especially Classic Hindi Cinema lovers.
It is heartwarming to see the effort put into the research and the sheer detailing to create the environment of the 40s-50s so brilliantly. From the writing to the songs, especially everyone's costumes, the editing, and the very wonderful cinematography by Pratik Shah, the production design, everything has been done so brilliantly that it transports you to that era. You can find 1000s of easter eggs in the show. Being a Guru Dutt…
Motwane is back! The ending of this series is bang on. Absolutely poetic! Loved loved it!
If you know me you might very well know how much I love and admire Vikramaditya Motwane, he's amongst my fav Indian filmmakers whom I deeply love and admire and is also one of the reasons my belief in Bollywood is still alive.
Jubilee is like the reincarnated version of Bombay Velvet, Motwane excels in what once Kashyap failed to achieve. Like I've been saying for a long time, we live in an era where now and then every known and unknown filmmaker is trying to write their love letters to Cinema, while some like Spielberg are excelling in achieving what they set out for, some are failing miserably like Chazelle. While Jubilee may not be a complete disaster, it's…
