This movie is dumb and stupid, here are some of my notes:
- Sterile
- Awful cg
- Terrible dialogue
- Terrible sets and greenscreen
- Treats the audience like you’re thick
- Weirdly stilted
- Really bad sound effects
- The context gives the rock an entirely new way to get circlejerked
The rock: “wow look at my body I’m so strong and cool”
Kevin heart: “im short lol, I’m black lol”
Jack black: “instagram lol”
Nebula: “im hot lol”
- Very on the nose and simplistic
- Last act is incredibly boring
- The score is appallingly generic
producer: so we got karen gillan in our movie, we gotta make her do a sexy dance and wear super skimpy outfits.
director: um....i dunno if thats really gonna fly? like, people arent so receptive to female characters being obviously engineered for sexual appeal anymore....
producer: hmm...yes...i see what youre saying.
director: good...
producer: youre saying we should make her do an ironic sexy dance and wear an ironic skimpy outfits!
director: no thats not what i me--
producer: *snorts line* get me the costume designer on the phone!
director: seriously its gonna be super obvious we just reverse engine--
producer: NO TIME TO TALK WE'VE GOT A MOVIE TO MAKE!
director: fucking kill me
fun movie 3/5
karen gillan: *does absolutely anything*
me: talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, the voice of our generation, the love of my life, stunning, magnificent, glamorous, fabulous, a goddess.
There's a part where a scorpion crawls out of Bobby Cannavale's mouth and kills a guy. More movies should do that.
"does 'phone' mean something different in the future?"
I just can't not give it four stars; also, Jack Black
should play this role in every film for the rest of ever.
i would’ve given this one star, except for the fact that jack black and nick jonas have sexual chemistry???? like? those sparks were flying???
A semi-related sequel to a 1996 kids movie that exactly zero human beings have watched since the death of VHS, the mildly amusing “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” is further proof that even the stalest whiff of brand recognition has become preferable to originality. Only part of the blame for that belongs to the studios, but after cannibalizing themselves for much of the last 20 years, Hollywood has clearly eaten their way down to the crumbs.
That’s not to suggest the original “Jumanji” was such an unspeakably terrible thing — Joe Johnston has always known how to serve a fine bowl of popcorn entertainment — but rather to say that no one should ever have to write the words: “The…

A sequel/reboot which provides a fresh, alternative look and feel in contrast to its predecessor while still maintaining its hokey, breezy grasp on comedy? Sure, why not.
MVP: Karen Gillan as a badass.
2nd MVP: Jack Black as a woman.
