Watched the show before the movie, and I was rather excited for this movie, because my mom loved the show and I thought it was really solid...
This movie floored me.
I think mostly because of the animation and cinematography.
It’s not only really emotionally engaging (doesn’t work as well if you haven’t watched the show, duh), but the ANIMATION.
The animation and direction in this movie is probably the best 2D animation I’ve seen this year. The fight choreography is devastatingly brilliant and it genuinely brings My Hero Academia: Two Heroes’ animation to shame, if we’re comparing. It was so good, that I can honestly forgive the movie for anything it does poorly, and it doesn’t really execute things…
My thoughtson the metaseries as a whole including the film.
Well animated and could be a lot worse considering it's just thrown together to kill time between Attack on Titan productions, a series I just never could get into, but when you throw together every popular post apocalyptic trope of the past decade you're bound to succeed at being passable.
I can't really explain why I finished all of this other than it was there and looked good. Outside of the leads, why care about anything, and even only one of them at that has anything close to what I could describe as an interesting backstory leaving the fluid action scenes into the service of almost nothing.
I will say…
Decent anime feature. Part of a bigger franchise, but works well as a stand-alone film. The animation is pretty solid and the action sequences are cool, the characters, art style and plot on the other hand are a bit basic and could've used a little extra attention. Pretty good filler for when you're short on anime films.
more than anything this and the preceding series has genuinely stellar, dynamic animation. doesnt have the most depth in the world but the characters are fun enough and i love all of the color and steampunk design work
Only movie this month cause of busy schedule, and of course it's another 'train' of wasted potential.
With a typical post-apocalyptic world setting, how does this film take off in its own unique way? Trains.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress's film is an interesting film that's good. The art has it's own unique style that makes it original. It's quite a colorful film, not to the point where it feels fake but enjoyable to watch and not boring in art alone. The smooth animations during the fight scenes were great to watch and feel immersable and fits the music during the many fight scenes.
In terms of characters, the relationship of Ikoma (The protagonist) and Mumei (The heroine) develop the course of this movie doesn't feel rushed. It doesn't feel like a "destined to be together" thing,…
The romance is stupid and unnecessary, every problem the humans face is caused by their own massive incompetence, characters are introduced so they can be killed off two minutes later, the dialogue is cheesy and nonsensical, and the villains are cartoonishly evil. All in all, the writing is pretty terrible.
But wow, this is absolutely one of the prettiest anime around. The background art is excessively detailed and imaginative. The animation is fluid and kinetic (save for the giant CG ball of zombies that is exceptionally stupid). The designwork, a blend of hyper stylized steampunk and feudal Japanese aesthetics, is incredible as well. The highlight here, though, is the character art and designs. The characters are gorgeously detailed with great…
A nice epilogue to the series. Short and sweet, beautiful visuals, nice action. Fans of steampunk and zombies should enjoy it.
I really enjoyed the original TV series, which I found to be a nice thrill-ride with some incredible animation. I've been looking forward to this film ever since it was announced, and after 3 years of waiting and having finally been able to check it out, it left a lot to be desired. While the dazzling animation is still on full display, the storyline is basically just an extended episode, and offers little that justifies why it needed to be a film and why fans had to wait so long to get it; an epic continuation this is not. It does follow up from the end of the TV series, but still doesn't come to any type of definitive conclusion…
I like it when anime movies are actual continuations of the series rather than a “non-canonical” jaunt into the world and this is a winner. It’s not as high octane as the show but the animation is top tier and I hope they keep it going with another season.
p much just a self-contained side ep, further develops a relationship that should 🤢 stay undeveloped
some cool fights, the gun sound is good

a good ending to the Kabaneri series, even if it does feel slightly redundant in certain bits.
taken as a whole, i think the Kabaneri series really is a perfect example to illustrate the fact that, sometimes you can just be so outrageously good at certain aspects of your cinema, that your work simply bypasses some of the traditional rubrics of critique. yes, yes, many have gone on and on about 'story' and 'character' and all such traditional things; but by the gods the steampunk-shogun setting here is just so outrageously cool, and the legendary Mikimoto Haruhiko (of Macross and Gundam 0080 fame) 's character designs are just so outrageously good, that anything else really matters little in comparison.

Medio punto más por esa pelea del final, ese movimiento de manos dibujados, parece un punto medio bobo pero me compras con eso.
They reused scenes from the previous series for its opening. The visuals are consistent. The story is somehow OK. And the ending sequence is more like a fanservice for those who expect romance between the characters (which I enjoyed personally).
