  maybe I’m projecting but Miranda July’s KAJILLIONAIRE feels like a movie by someone who looked at their newborn child & wondered “how do I not fuck this up? how do I love them just the right amount? how long can hair get? are massages refundable? small pancakes?” stuff like that.

  This was really sweet and I really liked it. Fucking great score. Looked it up afterwards and wouldn't you know it, it's Emile Mosseri who also did Minari and Last Black Man in San Francisco, two other standout scores I've loved recently. This mf talented. If he ends up being the go-to composer for all of Plan B's upcoming projects, I would not be upset! If you are expecting me to have more to say about this movie, I am sorry! Sometime da brain go no no!

  EDIT: okay just thought of something– one of my favorite endings of any 2020 movie i think! i reserve the right to go "ah never mind" when i remember literally any other movie that came out last year. when'd godfather come out

  Going into the movie:
  Fiance: I am really excited to watch this, it looked really good in the trailer.
  Me: I have no idea what it's about but I got myself a rum and coke so I don't care if it's any good.

  After the movie:
  Finace: Huge letdown, what a massive disappointment.
  Me: The concept of human affection lacking during one's childhood is told brilliantly here. The story of a family with no actual affection but purely for benefit is told horrifically well. No one relates to this story but at the same time we all relate to it. My God!

  How can you understand tender feelings if you’ve never been given them? Method and rigour can only get you so far when you’ve never been graced the tiny, fleeting pleasure of a soft, thick stack of pancakes, or a birthday present wrapped unbelievably carefully, or a strong, tight hug for no reason other than to show that, yes, that love is always there. 

  Watched this with my mum and her immediate praise for all of it, the second the credits rolled, solidified everything I had been hopeful for throughout. Very smart, very smart, very special. And so, so tender.
