"Avoid unnecessary explanations."
Hey, two movies last night, two lead performances from acclaimed world cinema auteurs. I may be going out on a limb here but I think this was the sillier of the two, with an atmosphere of palpable absurdity that makes almost every action and reaction, in some way, funny, which can be equally entertaining and exhausting.
This has been, I understand, touring the country in its shiny new 4K digital restoration, which as with all new restorations I applaud - but I can't help but think this is the sort of thing that was made to be discovered on one's own, with the slightest notion in the back of your mind as you watch it and forever hence that it's not actually real, that you hallucinated or dreamed it, and to be told about to friends and loved ones with an appropriately skeptical tone. Even in this form, though, it's may be hard enough to believe.
