Went in cold, absolutely excited by the premise of this film and getting to know Ömer Kavur, being unfamiliar with his work and excited for an introduction. Warming me up to want to dive into his entire filmography definitely worked, and I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary for this alone. I did, however, have some issues connecting with the documentary itself because I was so unfamiliar with Kavur as a filmmaker. It was nicely put together, with an obvious passion and dedication, but the poetic treatment of it all—which focussed solely on his personal life and collections of contemplative written diary entries and interviews—didn’t particularly help with the accessibility of the documentary for me personally.
They screened two never before seen short films by him as part of this screening, including his very first exercise in film, exciting stuff!
