Shaq raps off cue cards and his pants fall down. That’s literally all it takes to get 5 stars from the Swartacus these days.
Imagine Aladdin, but it takes place in modern New York, Aladdin is some bratty kid, and the genie is professional basketball player Shaquille O’Neale who can only speak in rhyme. Does that sound like an actual movie that came out, or a random early 2000’s Shaq ad? All I know is that I have seen this movie twice in the past two days, more than any one human should see in their lifetime.
This story of a bullied kid with a single parent who finds a Genie was supposed to kick off both of Shaq's acting and rap careers. Somehow I remembered this one being better, but I also remember this one being oddly farfetched even as a kid. As an adult there's all kinds of problems with this one. Even as a kids flick there are themes of crime and violence that might not be present in modern day films with a similar target audience. While I do think this one is still more entertaining than the average Rom-Com I'm not sure if there's any universe where this film could have been better, but as is I'll just say that I liked…
If I ever come across a magic jukebox, I'll wish this movie never existed.
