There is so much to love in this piece about exploring one's own identity, and that there is a lot more to live in besides the binary. Getting to that own spot of self-acceptance is hard, but seeing the joy spark in the eyes the first time Max sees themselves in the mirror in a more masc presentation should hit anyone that has experienced gender dysphoria or even body dysmorphia.
Great job on the director's part giving a glimpse inside the life of someone who is more genderqueer than in the trans binary like me.
King Max will be screened at the 2nd Academy of Death Racers Film Festival from the 6th - 22nd of January 2023. Get your virtual passes now by visiting our website.

(All that make-up...)
The interview with the transvestite about her workshop/activity was more interesting. (But, please, no more "performer" in french.)
You only have so much time to do anything in a film this short and honestly all the time we had was well utilized and earnest in its desire to explore gender. Best way to put it ? Short and sweet.

The opening scene is your classical student film mirror shot which I found to be a bit cringe but the rest of the story is necessary and poignant. I loved the soundtrack

a really touching short movie about finding oneself & exploring one’s gender. the movie peaks once the protagonist goes to a nightclub & watches a show of drag kings. the soundtrack is absolutely perfect & one of the highlights of king max!
