Kino 84 Jim Jarmusch
At a certain point I'm going to run out of Jim Jarmusch interviews and behind-the-scenes content but today is not that day and for that I am grateful...
lots of the cinematographer for permanent vacation and stranger than paradise whining. lizzy mercier descloux press color is in a stack of records in Jarmusch's(?) apartment in part of it. I love Eszter Balint
SUMMARY: martina müller’s documentary on jarmusch’s first films, a story of creativity and constraints
REVIEW: part of the value of this document is the value of jarmusch’s collaborators: the fortitude and charm of producer sara driver, the analytic insight of d.p. tom dicillo, the frenzied movement of actor chris parker, the captivating instincts of eszter balint, the somehow nonchalant obstinance of john lurie and the endearing humility of richard edson. of course the other part of its value is the unending discernment and generosity of jim jarmusch, his dulcet tones, his integrity, his influences, his acuity.
eszter ballint wears a nice sweater in this, shame chris parker didn't work with jarmusch more often
Basically, home movies of Jarmusch and his circle. Fairly interesting if you're into Jarmusch or the early 80s hipster NYC. Discussions with his first cinematographer Tom DiCillo are pretty interesting, especially with Jarmusch openly anxious about DiCillo wanting to move on from cinematography and Jarmusch wondering who could take his place (it'd end up being the great Robby Müller).
An extra on the Stranger Than Paradise disc, it’s part conversation, part shot dissection that has me re-evaluating Chris Parker in Permanent Vacation. Seeing him in the doc, at his apartment, seems like Allie was just pretty much him.
Entertaining interview segments film for German television about Jarmusch’s first two films. Lots of interviews and stories with a shit ton of footage from the films themselves. I’d say it more film footage than interview but that’s okay. It really highlights the great scenes from both films and helped deepen an appreciation because you really get the genius behind them when seen in separate clips.
