I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more dated that’s only 20 years old. The types of things that were represented as cool then (Hugh Hefner, A Plymouth GTX convertible with a 440 badge, little people as a comedic device) feel incredibly misguided. Not to say that this really landed in 2003, but this definitely doesn’t track today. It’s story and joke pacing are as slow as molasses and the premise is dumb. The acting is as competent as one could expect from a film called Knee High PI. An extra half star because they have a character named Jugsy Malone.
For fans of season 2 of The Man Show.
A pitch pilot that I guess was too costly not to write-off as the last of Comedy Central’s Original Movies. Tailor-making a pilot for Martin Klebba wasn’t the bad idea here, it was damn near 90% of the other decisions that are to blame for this vile bit of bile. The humor is lowbrow, lazy and relies on dated pop cultural references. I get name dropping Oprah once for a joke but they just kept running to that well and then stopping at Janet Reno & Martha Stewart so it doesn’t make it pointed at Oprah, just the mid-00’s when she was still a viable reference.
