It's no secret that right wing smear campaigns continually make a concerted effort to silence women and people of color. They aren't shy about it, and make no mistake, it's nothing but reprehensible. But there's another element of this that women like Ocasio-Cortez, Bush, Vilela, and Swearengin have to deal with every day: the people on "their side" who espouse unity and civility and profit off of the status quo, hypocrites who talk about change but won't support it when their power is threatened. Stories and films like this are legitimately inspiring. They are cathartic, even in loss and anger and disappointment. They are a rallying cry for the humanity that can drive a political campaign and the pure, unencumbered spirit that gives us some hope for progress. These women aren't taking any of your shit and they all deserve to represent us.
