Don’t you hate it when you try to pee in the woods but all that comes out is a never-ending spiral of grief and trauma.
Interesting surrealist horror movie! Twisted Groundhog Day! Very interesting dark imagery that you will see again and again. Never realized how unnerving mosquitoes sound. Now sure if I enjoyed but I’ll probably never watch it again. I feel it does have artistic merit! You can check it out on Shudder.
A grieving couple get stuck in a wild forest glade time loop. A child's music box sings haunting, melancholic melodies. A Satanic, circus-like trio inexplicably terrorizes and assaults the living. Welcome to the all-consuming weirdness of Koko-di Koko-da, a film that baffled and bewitched me in equal measure. Genre fans are gonna eat this thing up! Part horror, part human behavioral social critique, it's an adult fairytale with fangs, a Lynchian, Jodorowskian, Buñuelian nightmare that makes phantasmagorical flesh out of Haneke-styled grief, guilt and mutual blame.
This is a film about dealing with grief, what that process feels like, and how it symbolically translates to the screen. Grief is like purgatory, a frightening, violent space where men and women relive the…
This was fucked. This guy recommended this on a YouTube video without any context, he just said “go ahead and watch this, avoid synopsis of lots of lines, the surprise it’s worth it” and like the sUper obedient person I am, I did it. At first I thought it was not a very original plot, the first thing that happened made me think that it was going to be a think like Eden Lake or something like that, but it wasn’t like that. At first it was really getting on my nerves sooo bad, just like I remember Eden Lake did and that says a lot because this last film had me ripping my nails off my fingers. I even…
After the first 30 minutes, this movie really fell apart for me. But, fuck, that song slaps.
the crossover of Antichrist, Funny Games, and Groundhog Day we absolutely did not need
This is officially my second favorite Groundhog day type movie.
It is such a heart-wrenching movie with a tragic story and a surprisingly amusing bizarreness in its premise. It makes a scary, effective theme and atmosphere out of a seemingly innocent children’s song. Not to mention the beautiful score and unique way of storytelling that we find rarely in the horror genre.
This movie is weird and quite enjoyable.
I don’t quite know if I liked this or not honestly... I liked parts of it especially the animation which was full of sadness and beauty but the live action stuff with them being trapped in a time loop was ehhh... it looked kind of crappy too and just never really felt like it reached a satisfying conclusion. I could be missing something though and this is the kind of thing that benefits from repeat viewings ... I see this is listed as comedy too and it’s absurd and some of the characters are like fantasy bright to Life but I didn’t find it funny..
I'm fairly certain this was meant to be a study on working through grief inside an arty surrealist fairytale version of the Groundhog Day gimmick, complete with whimsical torture, borderline slapstick abuse and carnival waltz sadist backwoods characters.
What it actually turned out as was a lifeless bland slog to sit through.
A grieving couple end up reliving the same day over and over while camping. They also happen to be getting terrorized by three creepy characters and a ferocious dog for no reason. This groundhog day of doom style tale didn't do much for me. There are some neat animated sequences though. I would have liked to see the threesome of weirdos and their monstrous doggo do damage in a traditional slasher in the woods type setting.
I was long on the lookout for this one after catching wind of some buzz around it; once it was finally available I wound up having to sit on it for a while anyway, but finally given it a go, and it's an interesting one. An examination of grief and the struggle to overcome (or at least cope) with it. There are some genuinely poignant moments, captivating visuals, and a truly eerie score. I was very much a fan of the shadow puppet sequences. But while the the intention and symbolism feels clear enough, the characters feel too lacking, and the repetition of the structure seems less inclined to develop them than it is to simply wallow in their misery.…
