This Without any Shadow of a Doubt Makes him one of the Best Filmmakers Ever if not The Greatest of Them All.
A documentary that begins and ends with Kubrick's death, yet doesn't linger long on the event of his demise and instead really hones in on what he left in his wake. Kubrick is and undoubtedly always will be my favorite filmmaker and this film provided some unique insight into his creative process; everything here feels introspective and respectful to his legacy in ways few documentaries are able to convey. Wish it was a little more than just essential an hour of archival interviews, but I didn't really mind. I think hearing Kubrick speak is like crossing the bridge between life and death; it's soul-shaking, really.
Obviously when I see a documentary about the Kubrick man himself, I’m in. I’ve already seen a few documentaries about him but this one feels like the most unique approach to that life I’ve seen so far. The visual aspect of recreating the room of the end of 2001 with all the other props that take up half of what I shown in this movie, is done extraordinary well throughout the film. Now even though some parts of this I really liked it ultimately just felt like a collection of talking about several of his movies. There are standouts like the Clockwork Orange segment. And no I’m not saying that just because it’s my favorite of his films but because…
I will be bluntly honest here my PhD is on Kubrick I learnt nothing new here, but my respect for the man grew
Barry Lyndon needed to be physically attractive so he couldn't be played by Jack Nicholson or Al Paccino.
Pretty good documentary. Kubrick is obviously a fascinating figure and getting some insight into his process is very interesting. I have not seen a lot of Kubrick's films so I shouldn't tell you how phenomenal he is and you probably know that already. I have seen three of his films and they have all just grown on me with time.
This documentary did also focus a bit on the conversations his films created, and it asks the question why he made the films made. Kubrick definitely says some interesting and inspiring stuff but I would say we get a bit less from Kubrick himself than expected.
Two things I realised when watching this:
1) I really really want to make a movie
2) My Kubrick ranking is 1. 2001: space odyssey, 2. Full metal Jacket 3. The Shining.

‘Kubrick by Kubrick’ is a short documentary about the man himself, Stanley Kubrick. If you are familiar about the director and his movies, then this documentary will not offer anything new or interesting that you wouldn’t already know. If you are no familiar with the director, only his movies, then I think you will get a little more out of this then me but will still be left unfilled.
The documentary felt cheaply made and would often rush to the next segment without any satisfying conclusion to the topic it was discussing.
Although, I did like the fact they let the man himself speak about his thought process and approach to film making through achieve audio from…

Movie #2
Feels like the type of Stanley Kubrick documentary to watch after watching a bunch of other Stanley Kubrick documentaries. Not informative and detailed, but rather a collection of archived interviews and retrospectives presented in an awesome manner (recreation of iconic Kubrick settings). The man himself doesn’t needs any introduction, but if you’re looking for that, watch A Life in Pictures instead.
There’s not much I haven’t seen, read or listened to about the great man over many years of fascination and this doesn’t really bring much new to the table, but it’s nice to hear his voice as an accompaniment to his stunning visuals nonetheless.
Intressant.
Started off nice and interesting with some notes on his early career as a photographer and the way it translated into his movies but disintegrated into the old "let's say something short about all of his movies"-formula. It didn't tell me anything I didn't already knew (or mattered). I fell asleep halfway through and had to rewind two times.
Not a Kubrick fan.
Feels like almost all of his films have a big hole in them, a dead surface, a long drive in the dark. But this documentary is excellent. Much to learn. Michel Ciment sure knows the ropes. And by having him on tape, no camera, you get a lot closer to the Kubricksy. - I can't see how an ultra intelligent machine can be any worse than a man.
"A thought is juts a passing train."

Based around archival audio recordings of Kubrick being interviewed, Gregory Monro's documentary offers a unique perspective on the director, supplemented with clips and other archival materials.
just by watching this documentary you discover that the man was not only a genius in making movies, but also on the subject called 'human nature'!
Splendid documentary. The man was meticulously about movie making!
The rare audio interviews are what makes this an interesting watch. And the nice flow.
A favourite director of mine, and probably the best book to film director (at least 11 of his films are book adaptations). I may be the oddball here, but the Kubrick film that's made the most impact on me is "Eyes Wide Shut".
