2016 Directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly

Trauma, El misterio de Jane
A supernatural thriller that many people overlooked because of its silly premise, but I actually found quite entertaining thanks to the beautiful scenery and nice looking camera shots. Some shots were reminescent of The Conjuring but without being nearly as scary. I enjoyed the ride thanks to a strong lead performance from Abbie Cornish and some unexpected twists near the end. Cornish plays a loving wife and mother who has had a troubled childhood but somehow her subconscious has blacked it out. She spends her time as an amateur photographer taking pictures of old homes. After experiencing some disturbing visions and suffering a car accident she begins recalling some scenes from her childhood. This leads her to return to her past where she will discover some shooking truths. The premise may seem a bit silly and unoriginal but the execution was well developed. I ended up enjoying Lavender much more than I had the right to.
„This is so boring.“
Yes, it is.
It’s the usual generic, nonsensical and inconsistent paranormal/supernatural horror 😐
In the hospital you can hear an intercom announcement which might well be familiar,
“Dr Davis. Dr Davis. Telephone please. Dr Blair. Dr Blair. Dr J Hamilton...”
... turns out that it’s from stock audio files marked ‘General Hospital Shit’ and has been used in myriad films and tv shows.
It sticks out in my mind from the seminal 1988 album ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ by Queensrÿche, and the slightly less seminal Mötley Crüe’s ‘Dr Feelgood’ (check out those umlauts! 🤘🏼 )
Unfortunately, other than a cool slow-mo car crash, not much else happens in the first 40 minutes so it was touch-and-go whether I’d bother resuming after having to interrupt it for an emergency dog walk, (stay tuned for the decision...)…

—————————————————————
Very bad, really, very bad.
END.
Nooo, just kidding, let's see why it's so bad.
The story of a mother who after suffering an accident and amnesia begins to remember a dark mystery from her past.
A woman who is a photographer and loves to capture images of old houses, suffers an accident, and without knowing how or why, she just so happens that her uncle appears to give her the keys from her old house.
That it is precisely a house like the ones she photographs.
When she gets home, she notices the presence of evil, or rather, her daughter feels it.…
imagine thinking you're doing something original when all you're doing is creating an unneeded mashup of dark places and every tired But What If You Imagined Everything trope
A pretty middle of the road ghost story that really is shot extremely well and has a strong central performance from Abbie Cornish. The musical score here is also a standout as there are some really beautiful pieces of music and it appropriately ramps up the tension when needed.
It's really to bad this film goes completely off the rails in the final act as I thought it started out really strong. The middle of the film is when things begin to slow down and I really began to lose interest. When all is finally revealed in the last half hour you can't help and roll your eyes as how ridiculous this all is. Its possibly worth a Netflix watch but don't go out of your way. 2.5/5 stars.
Shot well, with some big nods to some classic horror movies - but the script is a rehash of 100 other terrible, slow-moving, low budget, straight-to-DVD drama/horror movies. A woman gets into a car crash and suffers memory loss. This memory loss triggers a previous memory loss and before she knows it, she's back living in her childhood home where a secret from her past begins to u--------URGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH oh my god, I can't take any more of these flowery fluffy ghost stories that all feel like the same exact Mad-Libs movie script being filled out by the same depressed 14 year old girl.
Decent, but predictable ending. However there isn't really a plot for the first 75 minutes.
Meh...
Too slow, too incoherent in logic and genre, not enough emotional impact, some nice shots of the South, that's pretty much it.
Not really a must watch.
Score: 5/10
this movie is very subtle, which i guess is why some people don't like. it has heavy dramatic elements. if you want loud, unapologetic horror, this is perhaps not the film for you. i wouldn't call it boring though. it makes good use of its runtime and is decently paced.
personally i think this is a great film about childhood trauma and the effects it can have on adulthood. i don't want to explain too much to avoid spoilers, but there are obvious reasons why everything happens the way it does and people who have not experienced trauma may not get it.
on top of artistic/thematic things i LOVE the technical aspects too. there are some really gorgeous shots and the sound and music is awesome. between the recurring flute here and the saxophone in hereditary i'm ready for more wind instruments in horror.
Lavender is a thriller set in 1985. Jane is a photographer, has survived a car accident, now has amnesia. She is haunted by her past and sees hallucinations of a little girl. This helps piece together her story. Jane suffers confusion mentally and does things out of the ordinary. She eventually figures out her story. My favorite character is Jane as a little girl because I love seeing the way her mind works.
I like this movie because It has a good plot. I would recommend lavender to anybody who likes thrillers, be aware viewer discretion advised you may experience some trauma because it is such a good movie, you have to watch it! With that being said I’d rate this movie 5/5 stars.
não assisti muitos filmes de terror então não tenho parâmetro. eu gostei mas esperava um plot mais foda. podia ter mais sangue tb.
