no cops at pride just academy award winner lupita nyong'o singing taylor swift's hit song shake it off on her ukulele
A few questions might race through your mind during the hectic opening moments of Abe Forsythe’s “Little Monsters,” in which an Australian couple shouts their way through an extended public breakup while bubbly piano music plinks by in the background. Questions like: “is that a Hemsworth?,” “can a zombie comedy perfectly split the difference between Edgar Wright and Taika Waititi?,” and “how are Lupita Nyong’o, Josh Gad, and an invasion of the walking dead going to factor into this?”
Like everything else in this funny, spirited, and frequently clever 93-minute romp, the answers come fast and furious (“no,” “almost,” and “with the reckless abandon of a movie that doesn’t have any time for nonsense like ‘reasons’ and ‘logic’ because it’s…
I would totally be down for a zombie apocalypse if it meant Lupita Nyong’o would play the ukelele and seranade me
It may sound strange that a zombie comedy made me miss Australia... but that’s what happened here. Aussies know Abe Forsythe as an actor, and he’s now grown into a wonderful writer and director. With this film, he also gets a wonderful Australian/American cast together to have a bloody good time. Alexander England plays a hopeless, selfish slacker who agrees to chaperone his nephew’s kindergarten class on their excursion to a theme park... mainly to get close to their teacher, played by Lupita Nyong’o. But unfortunately they end up in the middle of a zombie outbreak, also with a children’s TV entertainer, played by an insane Josh Gad. Plenty of laughs and fun zombie moments. A really wonderful little comedy!
We need more films where Lupita sings.
Despite it being a zombie film, Little Monsters manages to stay lighthearted and charming throughout its course. Probably the first comedy film that made me really laugh out loud this year.

Laid back zombie comedies are officially my new favourite genre. Especially this one which is definitely the cutest.
I can understand if people weren't impressed because it'll largely depend on your patience for Josh Gad, small children and Taylor Swift.
Otherwise there's a Taika Waititi energy which is enjoyable and fun. (I know it's Australian and he's a kiwi, sorry bro!)
I can see myself popping this on and eating a tub of ice cream when I need a pick me up. This is what I need!

A pretty fun zombie comedy that will make you love Lupita Nyong'o even more.
Written and directed by Abe Forsythe and premiering at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Little Monsters contains a thrilling narrative as well as a delighting central performance from Lupita Nyong'o. It's constructed with thoughtfulness and an ample amount of slapstick humour together with slightly more emotionalism than what I was anticipating beneath its surface. It's a satisfying nonsensical comedy and never more so than when Nyong'o performs Taylor Swift's Shake It Off on ukulele.

Darth Vader did fine against these zombies but any Star Trek Klingon warrior would have a field day using his bat'leth. That's a level 3 nerd joke everyone...LEVEL 3!
A teacher (Lupita Nyong'o), the loser trying to have sex with her (Alexander England) and a foul-mouthed children's entertainer (Josh Gad) have to help keep a Kindergarten class safe and entertained during a zombie apocalypse... it's a comedy/dramedy. Little Monsters is pretty hit or miss for me but still definitely worth a watch.
Little Monsters is a fun and original concept with heartfelt messaging. Lupita Nyong'o really establishes herself as a romantic lead in this film and the cast…
