A movie about wanting to go outside and then hating it once you’re out there because everything hurts and there are no orgies. Can relate.
A really bizarre 70s sci fi movie.
It’s slow, paranoid, and super 70s. Interesting to think this one won best special effects the year before Star Wars given that they feel a decade apart.
While it drags at times, it’s laughably pretty fun. Especially the part where they discover “outside” and start feeling old man’s wrinkles.
I can’t say I’d strongly recommend it, but it’s definitely a vibe.
There were elements of Logan's Run that reminded me of Spielbergs classic sci-fi Minority Report. A man escaping his doomed destiny, turning friends into foes and wrongs into rights.
The futuristic setting has dated, but for the most part we get a strong series of action set pieces that like the aformentioned film - thrill and excite, whilst telling an intriguing story that constantly drives forward.
A couple of pacing issues present themselves toward the end but Logan's Run is a thought provoking, pleasant work from all involved.
Wow this is the most 1976 thing to ever exist. Within the first 40 seconds you can tell this was made in the year of our lord nineteen hundred and seventy six. Full of dystopia jumpsuits, laser guns, and cats. Michael York is a weird looking dude, probably not leading man material but I guess it works.

How can you possibly dislike a film that has Jenny Agutter running around half naked for 2 hours to a soundtrack that sounds like Atari's Super Breakout?
It might look and feel a bit on the dated side, but Logan's Run has a timeless utopian/ dystopian story to it, some great 70's costumes, holograms, Lazer guns, cats, Farrah Fawcett-Majors' hair, and Jenny Agutter running around half naked for 2 hours.
All that PLUS some solid social commentary on individualism, homosexuality, race, gender, euthanasia, anti-consumerism, and a really intense focus on mini-skirts...

What begins as Blade Runner for Dummies® in a sparsely dressed shopping mall takes one hell of a turn for the better when we are introduced to a geriatric, feline-fostering Old Man [sic] who proceeds to own every single second of screen time he receives. All the core themes explored here are about as on the nose as rogue booger and I’m not sure if this is the fault of the source novel, which I’ve not read, or a matter of lousy filmmaking, who knows—plus Michael York is about as charismatic as my left foot. But none of that really matters because Old Man and his covey of cats make Logan’s Run a must-see, despite its many faults.
Before Flash Gordon, there was a Logan.... and he enjoys to Run. Also Tim Burton stole a scene from this movie for his Apes' movie.
Seriously though, sorry for that bad joke. Trying to maintain my sanity as a group of construction worker are literally drilling in my head. Luckily by the end of the day I might have a nice home-theater to blast my movies.
Speaking of movies, I've heard so many things about this one and yesterday watched a pretty interesting video on the behind the scenes, so I thought to give it a try. And you know what? For a film that had so many crazy production problems, that switched the actual age where people were killed…
Rented this in like 2004 and immediately lost it. Didn't pay for it, just never went back to that video store. This was a constant issue for me in my teens. However, there were like 15 video rental places in my hometown so I'd just start going to another one until I fucked up again. They all kept the late fees meter running indefinitely, and at my peak I owed them all something like five or six thousand dollars in total. Then... they just started going out of business, one by one. I remember the day the last blockbuster in town went under. I parked out front and watched it die like it was a bug drowning in my drink.
As the wife is caught up in a TV mini-series, once again I have the theatre to myself tonight, and once again I get to participate in Steve’s Sci-Fi June project. Tonight’s watch was supposed to be The Adjustment Bureau; however I’ve already seen it, didn’t particularly like it, and there were must tastier morsels of Sci-Fi schlock down the road in the middle of the month. Since this wife-watching-miniseries undoubtedly won’t last that long, I felt it a wise move to harvest the corny gems now while the sun shines, and try to put a few of the more serious of Steve’s selections on the agenda for us to watch together.
Thus brings us to the 1976 Sci-Fi actioner…
Logan’s Run is the futuristic yarn about how society has moved underground following ecological disaster in the year 2274. In a domed city, no one is allowed to live past the age of 30, but until then, the populace can dwell in luxury. The “carousel” suicide ritual (it’s something scary to us, something visually bombastic) takes away life before an audience. Any such fear is negated, though, since law-abiders believe that they will be reincarnated.
Michael York plays the “Sandman” termination officer on runners who undergoes a change of heart when he learns the truth. Much is ridiculous, and you have to forgive a few cardboard sets. It still has a kind of cheesy-morbid watchability to it, although you wish…
