This doesn't give a shit about black metal music, only in blandly sensationalizing a story about a couple of bad people who either did terrible things or encouraged them or both. Even if this tried to examine the art that they made or the reasons why they made it, which it doesn't, who cares? Fuck them and fuck this.
I have Thoughts. With a capital T. So this is going to be a long post. Sorry.
I guess I should start by putting this into context because I suspect most people are probably going to find this film perfectly enjoyable and wonder why I'm being so joyless. I admit I'm basically the hurt fanboy of black metal. All those nerds moaning about Star Wars or Ghostbusters and ruined childhoods. That's me here, sure. I admit it. But I'm at least going to try and justify why I feel that way.
I love black metal. I loved it in the 1990s. I love it now. Back then, I was in a black metal band. I wrote black metal songs. I…
Gives Mayhem the I, Tonya treatment, taking the piss out of the black metal scene's edgelord antics while never minimizing just how awful the acts committed by its members really were. Surprisingly homoerotic?
ok so here is what you need to know about me. this movie is me. this movie is the kind of transvaluation-of-all-values edgelord cretin i was in the 1980's and 1990's when you could get up to all kinds of unsupervised shit. whatever you weren't supposed to say i said. whatever you weren't supposed to do i did. most of my violence was directed inward toward myself. i self-mutilated on an almost daily basis for over a decade as a way of not dying. i only stopped after an injury with a boxcutter in 1998 sent me to the emergency room with nine stitches. i was lucky to have a friend good enough to drive me there and drive me…

A gritty and unflinching exploration of the dark side of the Norwegian black metal scene. The film delves into the infamous events surrounding the rise of black metal band Mayhem and the violent actions of its members.
Lords of Chaos is a character study that delves deep into the psyche of its protagonists. Through performances by Rory Culkin as Euronymous, the film examines the complex dynamics of jealousy, rivalry, and nihilism that fueled the band’s destructive path. Culkin’s performance is riveting, capturing the intensity and volatility of the character with raw authenticity.
The film’s depiction of the Norwegian black metal scene is both immersive and unsettling. From the grimy rehearsal rooms to…
A killer movie! The blood and gore is through out and done nicely. Based on a true story that revolves around a Norwegian Black Medal Band called Mayhem. They were the birth of Norwegian Black Medal. The movie is directed by Jonas Akerlund. I was really impressed Rory Culkin acting. This movie was awesome but not perfect! You can check it out on Hulu.
