So many skilled and watchable actors have been plugged into poorly made “Taken” rip-offs over the last dozen years or so — including Jennifer Garner, Pierce Brosnan, Zoe Saldaña, Liam Neeson, Liam Neeson, and Liam Neeson — and yet I still couldn’t help but get excited by the idea of casting Allison Janney as a grizzled “old woman” who grabs the nearest shotgun when some military-grade baddies kidnap the little girl who’s living on her property. C.J. Cregg doing Clint Eastwood? If that’s not enough to pump fresh life into action cinema’s hackiest sub-genre then I don’t know what is.
Neither, apparently, does anyone involved in Netflix’s “Lou,” a thriller so bland and threadbare it’s hard to imagine this one-time Paramount production would ever wind up anywhere else.
G.I. Janney is such a badass.
Another Netflix original with solid visuals and an intriguing subject that ultimately fails to fully engage . Anna's camerawork is excellent, and many of the shots provide a more complete picture of the setting that somewhat immerse you, both when it's dry and when it's drenched. The script is not particularly inventive, with the possible exception of the last reveal. And the acting is solid, if not what you would have hoped for; Janney, in particular, does an excellent job of what she does best: portraying cranky characters and making you love them despite this.
All in all, it's not terrible, and it's enjoyable enough for what it is, but it also doesn't do anything particularly novel.

Allison Janney got a gun 🎶
so fucking bland it hurts. not much to say considering this is a recycled kidnapping story told time and time again, but what a treat to see Janney get so many fight scenes and walk away with an attitude, I just love her, too bad Lou is incredibly mediocre and overstays its welcome.
Jax is the sweetest good boi tho.
A big storm is coming through,
But it's no match for "Lou".
A kid gets Taken,
But she's unshaken,
Knowing what she has to do.

A storm rages. A young girl is kidnapped. Her mother teams up with the mysterious woman next door to pursue the kidnapper, a journey that tests their limits and exposes shocking secrets from their pasts.
This is yet another example of a film that has a solid premise and good visuals, yet it never quite comes together as it should. Allison Janney gets her opportunity to shine here, as she is playing a character who does a nice job of coming across as threatening. Her past is as shady as her buildup, but the film doesn’t refrain from holding any important information from its viewers. Everything is essentially spelled out…
Not a good thriller, not a good action film, much more a rather boring walk through the rain with some dedicated actors who at the end of the film also longingly wish to finally go home.
While this was a bit slow in spots, I still liked this one. Anything with women kicking a little ass gets my vote.
Started out so good, even felt a touch Stephen King-ish, but it really loses its way towards the end, it feels like it became a different move to how it started. Great performances by Allison Janney and Jurnee Smollett, excellent chemistry, very believable.
So I’m up early this morning. Sat and had a cuppa and a bacon roll, then a wee smoke to myself. I then decided I was gonna get the quilt from the bed, put it on the sofa, get all cozy and watch a film. Magic! So around 15 minutes in my friend phoned me saying someone was off at her work and asked if I could come in right now and help her. So that was my lounging plans up in the air as I agreed to go and help because I’m pure sound. So anyway I then finished, got home, rolled a huge fatty and got into my cozy quilt laden settee pit and continued where I left…
I think Allison Janney has got to be one of the most charismatic and scene stealing actors of all time. She's been such a reliable supporting actress in film and television for so long. If Janney is in your project — chances are she's going to be the best thing about it.
So it's mildly disappointing that her first big budget leading role at 65 years old is a little ho-hum. It's not bad — I just think Janney deserved better.
Jurnee Smollett and Janney play really well off each other. Smollett is able to hold her own quite well — no small task sharing the screen with Janney. The kid and dog are cute. Logan Marshall-Green is okay.
